Offsetting and sizing the new window so it's plainly obvious that it's
another window, giving visual cues, telling the user right at the top that
it's a new window with a reference/link back to the opener window (if need
be), communicating between the windows, etc., all would pretty much
eliminate such worries. If opening a new window makes workflow sense, often
than not, you can make it work, (with apologies to Jakob who's probably
drunk in Hollywood ;-).
