I too would recommend just using another font.

Ziya pointed to the Microsoft fonts. Their alternative to Courier is
"Andale Mono" (formerly Monotype). I use it for my SSH client and
other fixed-width applications. 

I'm sure that some typeface zealots will argue in favour of
something better but this is free and works for me....
