If you *are* generating a unique ID with
"000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000" USELESS
digits, then you got much bigger problems than worrying about the
'compactness' of your IDs. One assumes that you know what you're doing.
If you have no use for X number of digits, don't generate them to begin
with. If they get used, you cannot arbitrarily eliminate them. This is not
very complicated.
