EY has an opening for an Associate on our KWEB (Knowledge WEB/Intranet) team for an Assistant Taxonomist.  This position may be located in either our Boston or Cleveland office. 

The Assistant Taxonomist will initially be responsible for the ongoing maintenance, evolution and implementation of existing Ernst & Young proprietary taxonomies.  In addition, the candidate will be responsible for the internal management of the taxonomy and it's metadata as well as taxonomy deliverables, documents and communications.  It is anticipated that over time, the responsibilities will grow to also include working with communities to develop taxonomies and to become involved with taxonomy education activities.  This position can be filled in Cleveland or Boston. 

Immediate Responsibilities: Taxonomy Maintenance 

••Responsible for the up-keep of existing taxonomies falling under the purview of the KWeb Taxonomy Program.  Activities related to this include, but are not limited to, the following: 
 o Compare, map, review for structure and format requested and/or required modifications to a taxonomy to assess the impact of  possible changes 
 o Communicate impact and/or concerns to the client 
 o Negotiate which changes will be made with client 
 o Create, in conjunction with client, plan to implement agreed upon changes, working in accordance to existing any service level agreements / established processes 
• Maintain history of decisions and modifications to the taxonomy and taxonomic metadata in taxonomy management tool and ensure that supporting taxonomic materials for each taxonomy are stored in the appropriate containers 
••Manage and maintain the KWeb Taxonomy Program databases and communications tools: 
 o Ensure that the databases / tools are functioning as expected 
 o Ensure that all feedback / requests are filtered to the appropriate KWeb Taxonomy Program team member 
••Maintain Knowledge Web (KWEB/Intranet) Taxonomy Program documentation and ensure that this documentation is up-to-date and stored in the appropriate places 
••When required, assist KWeb Taxonomy Program manager in preparing for / holding taxonomy development and/ or taxonomy education sessions 
••Act as a back-up contact in the event, the KWeb Taxonomy Program Manager is away or unavailable 

Future Responsibilities may include: 
- Taxonomy Development: Following best practices, work directly with communities to develop, implement and establish maintenance processes for new taxonomies 
- Taxonomy Promotion / Education: Promote use of the E&Y standard global taxonomy, where appropriate, and communicate changes to the E&Y standard global taxonomy to owners of community-based applications 

Requirements: 
Education: 
• MLS or equivalent (MLIS, Master of Science - Library, etc.) 
Experience: 
• 1-3 years related work experience including direct experience with taxonomy, classification or metadata models or systems 
• Be familiar with information architecture principles of database organization using metadata, including taxonomic metadata 
• Clearly understand the impact of taxonomic structure and its application on storage and retrieval of content via databases and portals 
Skills: 
• Possess appropriate knowledge and skills using office systems and software applications (Microsoft Windows and Office, Lotus Notes preferred) 
• Demonstrate proficiency to think analytically and understand key issues in a complex situation.  Must be able to focus on detail while at the same time keeping the detail in perspective of a larger project 
• Demonstrate ability to break tasks into manageable parts in an organized and systematic manner 
• Able to prioritize tasks and demonstrate the ability to handle multiple assignments concurrently and maximize output in available time 
• Demonstrate ability to be precise / attentive to detail while working in a timely fashion 
• Be familiar with project management fundamentals is desirable 
• Demonstrate capability to create and maintain documentation, including process documentation 
• Possess good communication skills including having the ability to: 
  o articulate complex messages clearly and concisely 
  o listen carefully to identify requirements, preferences and issues, be open to feedback 
  o influence / persuade others 
  o clearly explain and set expectations 
• Able to coordinate taxonomy change projects, including coordinating work with team members 
• Able to effectively work independently with limited supervision 
• Able to travel as required (very limited basis)
