Hi all -
I had a great time at the annual meeting last week, and hope that the
sessions you were able to attend were as good as the ones I went to.
Shelly, we were thinking of you regularly and hope all is well in your
family.

Just wanted to touch base to make sure we keep our momentum going into
the end of the calendar year. At some point I'd like to get your
feelings on regular (quarterly) touch-base discussions - whether we
should ask Dick for a conference call, or use a chatroom, or a bulletin
board... whatever.

I have several ideas of things I would like to see us do this year, and
I'm sure each of you do as well. If you would share them with me (off
list) I will digest and share with everyone, so we can make a list of
desired outcomes and divvy up responsibilities.

However, I do have one thing I'd like to start right away, and that
deals with "shepherding" of SIGs. There are 17 SIGs, and 4 virtual
SIGs. I believe there are also two virtual SIGs in the works (for
tagging and social justice). There are six of us. I would like to
divide these so that everyone has 3 full SIGs and 1 virtual SIG. I
could do it by lottery or by executive order, but would like to open it
up to your choice. I'm assuming that each of us would like to be
affiliated to our home SIG, if possible - and Kevin, I further assume
that you'd like the social justice one. I will take 2 full SIGs and
also lurk on the lists of the rest.

ACTION ITEM: Please send me your top five SIGs that you would like to
shepherd (note which is your primary SIG). I will allot shepherding
based in part on first come, but also on ranking (which will be fun!).

Shepherding will involve several duties:
1: Getting the list of active officers to me and HQ
2: Staying in touch with panels planning for AM08 (including sending the
list of suggestions to me and HQ, prompting them to submit, getting the
list of what was submitted, etc.)
3: Random prompting for activity on the listserv, website, wiki, whatever
4: Prompting for annual reports (in August), SIG awards nominations
(publication, member of the year)
5: Sending me and HQ the list of SIG leaders as identified in annual
reports and/or by SIG officers

It's really not going to be that much work - and I'll prompt you to
prompt them for most of this info. Think of it like a big phone tree,
only over email. :)

Questions? Comments? Dreams?
