Hello,
Register soon for Wikimania, the second International Wikimedia
Foundation Conference! Rates increase after Sunday, July 9!
What: Wikimania, the second International Wikimedia Foundation Conference
When: Friday, August 4 through Sunday, August 6, 2006; Hacking Days,
Tuesday, August 1 through Thursday, August 3
Where: Harvard Law School, Cambridge, Massachusetts
Info: http://wikimania2006.wikimedia.org/
Why: To learn about wikis and Wikimedia Foundation projects, like
Wikipedia and Wikinews, and network with others interested in wikis
and the foundation's projects
To take advantage of the current registration rates for Wikimania,
the second International Wikimedia Foundation conference happening
Friday, August 4, through Sunday, August 6, at Harvard Law School,
register soon! Conference organizers say the rates will increase
after Sunday, July 9.
Current admission rates are $90 per day and $240 for all three days
or for active contributors to any Wikimedia Foundation project, $30
per day or $70 for the entire conference. Conference volunteers may
qualify for a discount. Inexpensive housing may still be available in
the Harvard Law School dorms.
While the conference offers many sessions and activities of interest
to librarians, archivists, researchers, and other information
professionals, planners intentionally scheduled many activities
directly related to these professions on Saturday to make life easier
for those of you who may only be able to attend the conference on one
day. These activities include a Wikis in Libraries panel with
Meredith Farkas, whom some of you might know from the weblog
Information Wants to be Free and Library Success: A Best Practices
Wiki; a talk by Internet Archivist Brewster Kahle; a publishers
panel; sessions about wikis in education and the Semantic Web; and a
birds of a feather open discussion.
For those of you interested in the technical side of wikis and their
development, join the MediaWiki developers from Tuesday, August 1,
through Thursday, August 3.
More conference information is available on the Web site at:
http://wikimania2006.wikimedia.org/.
Noted journalist Dan Gillmor is organizing a gathering about citizen
journalism for Monday, August 7. This event might have a separate
registration process.
