The New England Library Instruction Group (NELIG) is pleased to announce its annual program, which will be held Friday, June 5, 2009 at the University of Southern Maine in Portland, Maine. The program, "Tapping into Learning Environments of the Future," will examine various emerging aspects of the learning environment and how they affect information literacy instruction.  

 

This year's program features a keynote presentation by Donald P. Buckley, PhD, Professor of Biology and Director of Learning Technology for the School of Health Sciences at Quinnipiac University.  Professor Buckley will speak on information fluency and the educational role of technology. The Decade of the Brain* challenged him to rethink how he taught and how one might use technology in one's teaching. His work coupling the use of technology to facilitate the learning of inquiry and to promote learning with understanding has won him four international awards and is now archived in the Smithsonian Institute's National Museum of American History as part of our national archive of the international transition to the Information Age.

Registration opens Thursday, April 23, 2009.  The registration fee is $35 for ACRL/NEC members, $40 for non-members, and $30 for students.   Register early as seats are limited.

When you register, please indicate which of the concurrent afternoon panels you would like to attend so we can plan which rooms to schedule them in. If more than one concurrent panel interests you, bring a colleague along and share notes after the show.

*In his 2002 book "The Blank Slate", Steven Pinker argues that 95% of everything that we knew about how the brain functions in learning was discovered during the 90s.
