[MNASIS-L] FW: [Nonprofit_tech_talk] automated telephone number lookup?

Hi folks!
I know this isn't the normal type of post we see on this list but I thought
I'd try anyways. A friend of mine is looking for a process to find phone
numbers for a database of addresses for a place where he volunteers. His
question is below. I think he is helping the organization put their contacts
into a database. The files they currently have are old and often
handwritten. They are hoping there is a way to create a script or something
to compare their database of addresses with a public directory to get the
phone numbers.
Does anyone have any good ideas? I must admit that if it were me, I might
just find some cheap labor, a fast Internet connection, and good directory
site to cross check - which makes me curious about a better way.
Thanks! Ann

I should clarify - I am trying to find an *automated* way to do the lookup.
For the individual case, I prefer the reverse directory at
<http://www.anywho.com/> www.anywho.com, but for doing hundreds and
hundreds, I'm hoping to find a way check the whole database at once rather
than take up lots of volunteer or staff time doing them individually. One
responder mentioned writing a script to hit the online sites one at a time
(not something I have the expertise to do - anyone done this?).

I'm trying to find out if there is a way to check a database of addresses
for phone numbers for free or relatively cheap - or heck even expensive if
that's the only option. A nonprofit I'm volunteering for wants to check an
old list for published numbers.
Thoughts?
