Dear Chapter Leaders,
More $$ Will Now Go To Chapters:
The ASIST Board has approved an updated policy for chapter rebates.
This policy had not been updated since the early 1980s. Active chapters
(which hold elections, complete annual reports, submit financial
information, etc.) will now receive $10 per member (was $2 per regular
member and $1 for student member) . Notice that this is a substantial
increase and there is now no difference between regular and student
members. The average increase is about $600 per chapter, and will be
more or less depending on chapter size. The hope is that this increase
will allow chapters to do more great programs, communicate with members,
and provide awards or scholarships. The hope is that these activities
will in turn translate into more members for chapters and the society as
a whole. And of course more ASIST fun! Treasurers will get these
larger rebates in the fall, so get those reports in! Treasurers, I have
estimates of what your new rebate will be, so contact me at
amy.wallace at csuci.edu to get specifics for planning purposes.
Reports and Chapter of the Year Award:
So that we know that your chapter has been active and to be eligible for
the rebate, each chapter must complete to Chapter Activities Report and
attach the required minutes and financial reports. This report also
becomes your nomination packet for the Chapter of the Year Award, and is
due by August 31, 2009.

Chapter Awards: Tell US Why Your Chapter Rocks!:
It's time for nominations for ASIS&T Chapter Awards! In addition to the
Chapter of the Year Award, ASIS&T recognizes chapters through Chapter
Member of the Year, Chapter Event of the Year, Chapter Publication of
the Year, and Chapter Innovation awards. We encourage you to nominate
your chapter for one of these awards. Nominations can be made by any
ASIS&T member and are due by August 15, 2009.
Information about each award and a link to the submission form can be

Don't Forget About the Chapter Development Fund:
The Chapter Development fund was established to provide chapters with a
resource (1) for building,
developing and strengthening the chapter above and beyond what could be
accomplished with local
resources and (2) to make possible projects which could not happen with
local resources.
1. Chapter Development Fund money should be used for projects which will
result in a stronger
chapter, e.g., by increased membership, publicity or exposure for the
chapter, or through other
means.
2. The money should be used to supplement local resources and be used
when local efforts are
insufficient, not in place of local effort.
3. The proposed budget should be carefully prepared and should be
scrutinized as thoroughly as a
chapter's (or ASIST 's) annual budgets.
4. The request should be considered in light of the current budgetary
resources of the requesting
chapter.
5. Chapter Development Fund money cannot be used to pay travel expenses
for ASIST members or
honoraria for speakers.
6. Actual expenditures may not be authorized without proper receipts or
invoices available to ASIST
Headquarters.
