Stella Griffiths, Executive Director of the International ISBN Agency, has requested the establishment of a category A liaison status with ISO/TC 46 (Information and documentation) on behalf of the International ISBN Agency (http://www.isbn-international.org/).



The International ISBN Agency is a not for profit organization that has been appointed by ISO as the registration authority for the ISBN (International Standard Book Number) standard (ISO 2108). It has member ISBN registration agencies based in over 150 countries. The ISBN is the main identifier used within the book supply chain to identify unique monographic publications and the Agency is also closely involved in bibliographic description and metadata standards.



The International ISBN Agency already has A-liaison status with two TC46
subcommittees: SC9 (Identification and description) and SC4 (Technical interoperability).
