This is really exciting and bodes well for the importance of standards
within the ASIS&T community.
Perhaps we should think about what this might mean for our program at the
Annual Meeting. We might be able to engage the DC community in Canada
through some "joint" marketing.

This is an exciting development that promises the next step in stability
for DCMI, Stuart. I'm very pleased to learn of it. Congratulations to you
and others who have brought this about!

Dear Advisory Board Colleagues:
In the weeks between now and 30 June, you see public announcements that
DCMI and ASIS&T (the Association for Information Science and
Technology),[1] have entered into a *management partnership*. Many of you
may be more familiar with ASIS&T under its recently changed name, American
Society for Information Science and Technology. I want to let the AB know
about the change in advance of these public announcements. The first of
the announcements *may occur* as early as this weekend with the online
publication of the June/July issue of the *Bulletin of the Association for
Information Science and Technology*. [2]
With the new management partnership in place, DCMI will cease operations in
Singapore as a company limited by guarantee and pick up management
operations as a project of ASIS&T effective 1 July. The decision to enter
this new partnership was motivated by the desire of our governing Oversight
Committee to shape a even more flexible and responsive institutional
management structure for DCMI, while retaining its autonomy in governance,
mission, goals, objectives and its commitment to an open, consensus-driven
community.
This new management partnership off-loads to ASIS&T the needs for DCMI to:
1. manage outside agencies handling formalities such as legal,
accounting/auditing and taxation services required by DCMI's current legal
structure; and
2. develop and maintain sufficient institutional memory to efficiently
handle such services over time without negatively impacting DCMI's
programmatic goals as the Initiative changes and grows.
ASIS&T *will be* such a strong partner through its proven capacity to fold
services of this kind into its existing infrastructure. Of course, an
additional goal of the Oversight Committee was to *look beyond* simply
finding a partner to fulfill such institutional management needs but rather
to find one that complements DCMI and is excited about partnering with us
in new and mutually beneficial ways.
Simultaneous with the *ASIS&T Bulletin* announcement, DCMI will announce
the new partnership through DC-General. The news will go out over our RSS
feed, Twitter, and LinkedIn coordinated with the DCMI website rebuild on 26
June. The announcement will also go out through announce at dublincore.net to
over 45 relevant professional lists. These announcements will contain a
link to a page on our website that provides additional information about
the rationale for this transition and how it will better position DCMI
going forward.
