Trust and Technology in E-Business: Applications and Strategies for Assurance

To be published by IGI Global: http://www.igi-global.com/requests/details.asp?ID=684

Introduction

The convergence of information technology and telecommunications has provided a unique environment for business transactions. The unique benefits offered by an e-business environment have motivated business organizations to make huge investments in the requisite infrastructure for e-business.

The utilization of the e-business infrastructure has been affected by the lack of trust among the users due to the vulnerabilities of the system. Such vulnerabilities have been exposed by various security and other incidents by the media. These vulnerabilities originate from various technologies that form the conduit of interactions between the trading parties.

A number of technologies are available that can reduce the vulnerabilities of e-business infrastructure. However, mere deployment of these technologies may not be able to enhance the levels of trust. Companies need to achieve higher levels of assurance with respect to various technology-related issues that have the potential to leverage technology for enhancing the levels of trust. For this, it is imperative to define various technology-related trust dimensions so that suitable strategies could be worked out.
