ALISE 2010: Creating a Culture of Collaboration
Call for Juried Papers
Deadline for Extended Abstracts (maximum 1000 words): July 15, 2009
Notification of Acceptance: September 15, 2009
Juried Papers accepted for presentation at the conference are eligible for
consideration for the JELIS "best papers" conference issue. Deadline for
submission of full papers for possible publication in JELIS will be March
1, 2010.
Collaborating is needed to address large, complex societal issues.
Collaborating is necessary to accomplish goals and objectives given budget
cuts. Collaboration is enhanced and strengthened by communication
technologies.
The conference theme of collaboration refers to collaboration broadly and
encompasses the entire process of collaboration. We hope that conference
sessions will address these and other topics related to collaboration:
• To collaborate or not to collaborate
o Projects that lend themselves to collaboration
o Can we afford not to collaborate?
o Barriers to collaboration
• Identifying collaborators
o Current practices for identifying collaborators
o Innovative ways of identifying collaborators
o Characteristics of successful collaborators
o Collaborating within organizations, across organizations, across borders
• Working with collaborators
o Collaborating with competitors
o Unlikely collaborations
o Developing the collaborative spirit and skill set
• Sustaining collaborations
o Overcoming issues in sustainability
o Use of communication technology to sustain collaboration
o Institutional support and reward for collaborative work
• Value of collaborations
o Measuring the success of collaborations
o Output of collaborations
This call for papers seeks original contributions in all areas related to
current issues in LIS education with special emphasis on papers related to
the conference theme. Prospective participants are encouraged to submit
abstracts that report on recent research and scholarship. Contributions to
this call for papers should not have been previously published. There are
no restrictions on research methodology.
Instructions for Submitting Juried Paper Extended Abstracts:
Extended abstracts should include the following:
• Title of the paper
• Names, affiliations, and contact information of the authors and one
author to be designated as the contact for the paper
• Up to 1000 word description of the paper, including the research
questions, methods used, and overview of results.
Submit abstracts in PDF or WORD format by July 15, 2009 to Mary Stansbury,
