Hello ASIS&T Members,
As we move into latter half of 2008 and the 2008 Annual Meeting
approaches, we are writing to keep you up to date on ASIS&T activities
and your member benefits.
Upcoming Meetings:
2008 Euro IA (Information Architecture) Summit! Organized under
the auspices of the European Chapter of ASIS&T, this year's summit –
"Redrawing the Map" is coming up September 26-27 in Amsterdam,

The 2008 Annual Meeting -- "People Transforming Information -
Information Transforming People" is scheduled for October 24-29 in

The 5th International Conference on Knowledge Management
(ICKM2008)-- "Knowledge Management Competencies & Professionalism" --
will be co-sponsored and hosted in conjunction with the 2008 ASIS&T
Annual Meeting in Columbus in October, specifically October 23-24. For

Some events at the 2008 Annual Meeting ……
ASIS&T has initiated contacts with sister societies in a number
of countries with a view to work together at building a common place
facilitating interaction among them and among their members at large.
ASIS&T members who have membership in, or connections with, other
national or international societies are urged to assist in this effort.
Please contact michel.menou at orange.fr The respective presidents
have been invited to attend the forthcoming annual meeting. It is hoped
to continue informal discussions on this occasion. The President and
President-elect will offer a reception for leaders of information
science / information professional societies reception on Monday Oct. 27.
Come to Annual Meeting and leave more involved with local
chapter activities! Don’t miss the Chapter Assembly meeting on Sunday,
Oct. 26, 8:30-10am and the Chapter Assembly Planning Breakfast Tuesday,
Oct. 28, 7:00-9:00am.
Coming in Spring 2009 -- The IA (Information Architecture Summit)
will be held in Memphis, Tennessee March 18-22. The Information
Architecture Summit is a premier gathering place for information
architects and all those who touch on IA to discuss, share and learn
more about information architecture. Last year's IA Summit attracted
well over 600 attendees from a wide range of fields, from 21 countries,
and from beginners to experienced IAs.
We are seeking proposals for IA Summit presentations, panels, case
studies, research papers, posters and pre-conference seminars, hands-on
workshops and consortia that address this year's theme: Expanding Our
Horizons. For more information about the various tracks and to submit
a proposal, please see: http://iasummit.org/2009/ We're currently
accepting submissions until October 31st, 2008. If accepted, we'll
notify you via email during the first two weeks of January 2009.
New Publishing Agreement:
ASIS&T recently signed a new publishing contact with Wiley
Blackwell following a formal, competitive bidding process. The agreement
covers JASIS&T and the Digital Library. More information is available

ASIS&T Membership, Connections and Involvement:
Remember: You can update your member information online and find
colleagues and experts! Just use the ASIS&T membership database,
available on the Society web site. Step by step instructions with

Keep in touch with ASIS&T throughout the year with your chapter
and SIG activities. Groups have listservs and websites that members and

ASIS&T is on Facebook! Join the 499 (and counting) members and
non-members who are fans of the American Society for Information Science
& Technology to see announcements, events, job postings, and network
with students, researchers, and practitioners. Several chapters, SIGs,

quantitative comparisons of search engine results, a comparison of
Scopus and Web of Science citation tracking resources, an alternative
approach to building ontological relationships, a cross-cultural
comparison of people's associations with personal communication
technologies, among others.
The August/September Bulletin (http://www.asis.org/bulletin.html), now
in a new interactive online format, features a special section on
information architecture. Members can easily access ASIS&T publications
via the Society's Digital
