INTRODUCTION

Web search engines are a major technology of modern life. “Web Searching: Interdisciplinary Perspectives” will provide an understanding of web search engines as new media within contemporary culture. This book provides an interdisciplinary theoretical perspective on the lived experience of Web searching. Each chapter will push forward our understanding of social, cultural, economic, legal, political, and information and communication perspectives on Web searching. The book will critically examine emerging the critical issues, theories, and interdisciplinary formations arising from, and surrounding, Web searching, particularly the impact on individuals, social groups, modern and postmodern ways of knowing, and public and private life.

Economic Perspectives
Ethical Perspectives
Information Behavior Perspectives
Legal Perspectives
Political Perspectives
Social Perspectives

SUBMISSION INFORMATION 

Potential contributors are invited to submit a 2-5 page chapter proposal to the Editors by April 1, 2006, detailing the background, motivations and structure of the proposed chapter. Authors will be notified by April 15 as to the status of their proposal and sent organizational guidelines. Full chapters should be at least 8,000-9,000 words in length and are due on August 1, 2006. Final revised manuscripts are due on September 30, 2006.
