Automated Indexing and Abstracting: Current Status and Future Trends

NFAIS is organizing a forum on the current status and future trends in
the development and application of technology for automated indexing and
abstracting. This one-day session will be held on April 22, 2005 at St.
John's University Manhattan Campus, New York, NY, from 9:00am - 4:30pm.
The meeting will begin with a definition of computer-assisted
indexing/abstracting, its pros and cons, and the kinds of organizations
who are - or who should consider - using this methodology. This will
be followed by an overview of the current technologies, their
features/functionalities, and the platforms required for implementation,
as well as a presentation that will help in the evaluation of these
technologies against your specific data requirements. A session on how
to implement the technology and successfully manage expectations will be
presented along with several case studies.

Whether you are a data provider seeking to cost-effectively keep apace
with the growth in information, or an information professional involved
with the indexing /publishing of your institution's intellectual
property, this meeting will provide you with a foundation on automated
indexing technology and how it may play a role in your organization's
future. Register early, as seating is limited. The draft program,
registration form, directions to the meeting location, and a list of
nearby hotels is available at:
http://www.nfais.org/events/event_details.cfm?id=29 .

Register before April 1, 2005 and NFAIS members pay $210 and non-members
pay $260 (registration fee includes continental breakfast, a box lunch
and two refreshment breaks). After April 1, 2005 NFAIS members pay $245
and non-members pay $295. For more information contact: Jill O'Neill,
