Do you use the Web to find information? Would you like to make $75 for one
hour of your time?

Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) is seeking Web users
from a variety of backgrounds to participate in a usability study of a
federal science Web site.

Feedback from users participating in this study will guide improvements to
the site to make information easier to find and accessible to all
audiences.

We’re looking for scientists, librarians, teachers, administrators,
policymakers, computer specialists, researchers, lawyers, doctors,
administrative assistants, managers, college students…..if you use the Web
to find information, you’re a potential candidate to participate in this
study!

You do not need to have expertise or training in a scientific discipline to
be a part of this study – but if you do, that’s great, too!

WHAT IS A USABILITY STUDY?

Participants are shown a Web site, and asked questions about finding
information on it. They provide valuable feedback to the site developers
regarding the ease of use of the site and its content. There are no wrong
answers to these questions; the study is intended to reveal strengths and
weaknesses of the Web site, not the user. Also, users need no previous
experience with the Web site that is the subject of this study.

REQUIREMENTS:

1. Participants must be available for 1 hour, either on Tuesday, 9 August
or Wednesday, 10 August, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Early
applicants will have the widest choice of time slots.

2. Participants must be at least 18 years of age.

3. Participants must live in the Washington, DC Metro Area and be willing
to travel, at their own expense, to the site of the usability study: the
Bureau of Labor Statistics Usability Lab at 2 Massachusetts Ave., NE,
Washington, DC ; this building is across the street from Union Station
(Metro Red Line).

4. Participants must consent to being recorded during their session;
recordings will be used for study purposes only, and will not be released
to any outside agency or individual.

5. Participants will be asked to “think out loud” during the session,
verbalizing their thoughts and impressions as they navigate through and
answer questions about the Web site.
