The New Jersey Chapter of the American Society for Information Science &
Technology (NJ/ASIS&T) proudly announces Dr. Eugene Garfield as the
recipient of its eighteenth annual Distinguished Lectureship Award. The
NJ Chapter established this award in 1985 to honor individuals who have
made significant contributions to the field of information science. Due
to the stature of past awardees, this award has become internationally
acknowledged throughout the information science and technology community.
You are cordially invited to attend the events surrounding the
presentation of this year's award.
Dr. Garfields research interests include scientific communication and
information science including delayed recognition, the impact factor,
bioinformatics, algorithmic historiography, citation analysis, and mapping
the world of science. He is currently Chairman Emeritus at the Institute
for Scientific Information and President of The Scientist LLC. For

Dr. Eugene Garfield will provide a synoptic review and history of citation
Indexes and their evolution into research evaluation tools. The review
will cover the origins of journal impact factors, Citation Classics, and
other bibliometric applications, including historiographic mapping of
science during his lecture titled:
"An Informal Seminar on the Use of Citation Analysis
in the History and Evaluation of Science"
