Below are two scholarship opportunities for students. You may also check
out our website at http://www.cis.drexel.edu/ under the Headlines area for
information as well.
The Rosalie Katchen Memorial Award
AJL encourages excellence in Judaica librarianship by sponsoring several
awards for Judaica librarians or aspiring Judaica librarians.
The Rosalie Katchen Memorial Fund, named for a leading Hebraica librarian
and cataloger, supports catalogers and library school students seeking to
further their knowledge of Hebraica/Judaica cataloging and/or participate
in and contribute Hebraica records to national cooperative cataloging
programs.
Evidence must be presented showing enrollment in a graduate school of
library and information science. Or, the applicant should be currently
active in the field, such as being employed in a cataloging or technical
services department. Applicants must provide documentation showing
completion of courses in Judaica at an academic level, or demonstrate
equivalent knowledge. A strong knowledge of Hebrew language is essential.
Examples of activities that the scholarship supports would be:
* Attend training sponsored by the Program for Cooperative Cataloging
such as NACO, SACO, or Series Authority Training
* Attend a course in Hebraica cataloging
* Attend workshop or advanced course at Bar Ilan University or the
Hebrew University in Israel at their graduate schools of library, archive,
and information studies
* Attend a seminar or workshop on Judaica cataloging
Students desiring to apply for this scholarship should describe the nature
of the project that would be funded, and submit necessary documentation to:
