                             DREXEL UNIVERSITY

COLLEGE OF INFORMATION SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY

                        Full-time Faculty Position

Drexel University's College of Information Science & Technology (IST)
invites applications for the position of Director of Distance Education for
the Information Systems Curricula. This is a 12 month, full-time teaching
position in the graduate online information systems/software engineering
programs with additional responsibilities for management and marketing of
the online Master of Science in Information Science program and related
online post-baccalaureate certificate programs.

The IST view of information is broad, multidisciplinary, and practical. We
offer a BS and an MS in Information Systems, a BS and an MS in Software
Engineering, an ALA-accredited MS in library and information science, and
the PhD. The Master of Science in Information Systems (MSIS) helps
students pursue careers as information systems professionals. The goal of
the program is to teach the application of technology to information
problems in real organizations. The curriculum incorporates a principled
approach to the analysis, design, implementation, testing, deployment,
assessment, and enhancement of large-scale information systems.

The College has offered an online version of the MSIS degree since 1996 and
the MS(LIS) degree since 2000. The College is growing rapidly and has 29
full-time faculty and about 1500 students. The online MSIS program draws
students from across the US and overseas; currently about 40% of the 300+
MSIS students are either in the online program or have taken one or more
online courses. For several years, the College has offered a three course
post-baccalaureate certificate in Competitive Intelligence. Beginning in
Fall, 2003, we expect to offer additional certificate programs in areas
such as Software Engineering, Human-Computer Interaction and Database
Technology.

In addition to teaching in the online program, the candidate will be
involved in providing managerial and curricular oversight for the program
and in collaborating with Drexel e-Learning, the Drexel subsidiary
responsible for broad-scale marketing of the University’s online degree and
certificate programs.

The successful candidate will have:

· A completed doctorate in an information systems-related field
· Both teaching and industrial experience in relevant areas of
information systems and/or software engineering
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills
· Excellent management skills and an entrepreneurial orientation
· Interest in a highly collaborative faculty environment

Desirable qualifications include:
· Experience teaching in an online mode, using one of the standard
course delivery platforms (Drexel uses Blackboard)
· Experience in curriculum planning and program marketing
