If I am not mistaken my reply below got lost in cyberspace. It
included some explanation of this exchange that might otherwise appear
quite strange to the members who did not get the call for discussing
the 2003 candidates statements.
Apologies for those whou would have got this piece twice.
Best regards,
Michel

Dear colleagues
Victor Lombardi's message below was sent further to a call by our
Executive Director, opening a discussion about the statements by the
2003 candidates for office.
As some of you may not have seen it on asis-l (as is my case), further
to
the most unfortunate breakdown of the lists, I am copying it after my
response. And look forward to an active discussion.

In recent years IA has attracted a lot of interest among members,
catalyzed energies and talents, and attracted new contributors to the
society's programs.
As long as this continue to be the case, ASIS&T should support
developments in this area. As it should do in any "new" domain of the
broad information field.
One may further hope that members will find the strengths and vision
to proceed with efforts at integrating IA and other domains into a
coherent framework that could help us all, and society at large, make
a better sense of what is really happening in the "information age".

Dear ASIS&T members
The statements of the candidates for President-elect and
Director-at-Large have been posted on the ASIS&T web site at
<http://www.asis.org/Board/nominations2003.html> and you should be
receiving the ballot form and materials soon.
The election of officers is not only an opportunity to select
individuals but also a chance for the membership at large to express
its views and options for the future development of our society. If
ASIS&T is important to us, it deserves more than filling a ballot
form.
Constraints for the production of the printed ballot material result
in reducing candidate bio and position statements to a total of about
600 words. The statements cannot therefore propose more than general
ideas and themes.
With the approval of all candidates, we are opening a discussion on
Asis-l at asis.org. It will allow you to ask questions of the candidates
about the ideas presented in their statements, or their plans, get
their replies and further comments, discuss the various issues which
you see as important for the success of ASIS&T, and the practical
actions you would like to see implemented.
Whether you subscribe to the regular list, to its digest form, or just
check the archives, you will be able to send your questions and
comments.
As one may expect at this time of the year, candidates may not be
available all the time. Their responses may thus be delayed for one or
more weeks. Please be patient.

If you question is directed to a particular candidate, please begin
the subject line with "For XX"
The list will be open until September 1, 2003.
And remember that your ballot form should reach ASIS&T headquarters by
September 20, 2003.
Thank you in advance for your participation.
