Greetings colleagues:

The web version of the "MIR/MDL Evaluation Project White Paper
Collection, Edition #2" is now available for reading at:

http://music-ir.org/evaluation/wp.html

This edition is part of the Mellon-funded "Establishing Music
Information Retrieval (MIR) and Music Digital Library (MDL)Evaluation
Frameworks: Preliminary Foundations and Infrastructures" project.

Part I of the text contains the project outline and White Papers
presented at "Workshop on the Creation of Standardized Test Collections,
Tasks, and Metrics for Music Information Retrieval (MIR) and Music
Digital Library (MDL) Evaluation". Held at the Joint ACM/IEEE Conference
on Digital Libraries, Portland, OR, 18 July, 2002.

Part II of the text contains White Papers to be presented at the "Panel
on Music Information Retrieval Evaluation Frameworks", to be convened
as part of ISMIR 2002, 3rd International Conference on Music Information
Retrieval, IRCAM – Centre Pompidou, Paris, France, 17 October, 2002.

A third edition is planned for mid-spring which will include more White
Papers, revisions of the current White Papers, and a set of formal
recommendations for MIR/MDL evaluation based upon the findings of these
meetings and papers. If you are interested in contributing and having
your voice heard as we try to shape the future of MIR/MDL development,
please contact me at jdownie at uiuc.edu . I am particularly interested in
hearing from practicing music and digital librarians, those in industry,
and those who have had experience with other evaluation programmes,
though all voices are welcomed.

N.B. I plan on distributing paper versions of this second edition to the
registered participants of ISMIR 2002.

Cheers and I hope this message find everyone well.
Stephen
