At Simmons College, as we work to educate our students in the new
millennium, we have recently celebrated our hundredth anniversary. Since
1899, the core of our mission has been to blend education with practical
work experience, preparing people to lead meaningful lives and earn
independent livelihoods. Situated next to the Isabella Stewart Gardner
Museum, Museum of Fine Arts, Harvard Medical School, and other
institutions, the College combines co-educational graduate schools and
graduate-level programs in arts and sciences with a four-year women’s
college. The Graduate School of Library and Information Science (GSLIS),
which is located in a new high-technology building, awards degrees at
the Master’s and Doctoral levels and is one of the nation’s oldest and
largest fully-accredited programs. Our alumni consistently lead the
library and information professions and the information industry.

GSLIS invites applications and nominations for three full-time
tenure-track (open rank) positions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teach, conduct research, and contribute to developing curriculum in one
or more of the following general areas:

Organization of knowledge (e.g., metadata, classification and taxonomy,
cataloging, XML and MARC applications)

Management (e.g., behavioral and human approaches, including principles,
theories; and skills; leadership; change management; information
management)

Technology (e.g., telecommunications and networking, social aspects,
digital and hybrid libraries, authentication and security issues,
database management)

Reference services (e.g., online services, literacy, information
literacy, evaluation of services)

Faculty advise and mentor students, develop School policy, participate
in continuing education if they desire, and interact with alumni and
peers in the profession and the College.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Preference will be given to applicants who have already earned a Ph.D.
in library and information science or an appropriate related field, can
demonstrate excellence in teaching, and have potential for leadership in
scholarship and professional service.

Salary negotiable, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
