iConference 2016 takes place March 20-23, 2016, in historic Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. This year?s theme of ?Partnership with Society? examines the dynamic, evolving role of information science and today?s iSchool movement, and the benefits to society. The conference includes peer-reviewed papers, posters, workshops and sessions for interaction and engagement, interspersed with multiple opportunities for networking. Early career and next generation researchers can engage in the Doctoral Student Colloquium, Early Career Colloquium and Undergraduate Student Showcase forums.
Authors and organizers can now submit materials using our secure submissions website: https://www.conftool.com/iConference2016/ . The iConference brings together scholars and researchers addressing critical information issues in contemporary society. The iConference pushes the boundaries of information studies, explores core concepts and ideas, and creates new technological and conceptual configurations?all shaping interdisciplinary discourses. Visit our website for more information, including sample topics and links to past proceedings: http://ischools.org/the-iconference/
iConference 2016 is hosted by Drexel University?s College of Computing & Informatics. Our conference venue, Loews Philadelphia Hotel, is located in Philadelphia?s bustling center city. Subject: [Students-l] Announcing 2015 ASIST Student Chapter Awards
Message-ID:
Dear ASIST students and advisors,
The Jury for the 2015 ASIST Student Chapter Award worked very hard to review the submitted reports/nominations and provide their comments. Based on jury's comments, scores, and deliberations, we are happy to announce the following awards for this year.
* Student Chapter-of-the-Year:
We are pleased to announce that the San Jose State University Student Chapter (SJSU ASIS&T) is the 2015 winner of the ASIS&T Student Chapter of the Year Award. In selecting SJSU ASIS&T for the award, the jury considered the chapter's membership, activities, communications, financial and administrative management, and contributions to ASIS&T and the broader IS community. An online, virtual chapter, SJSU held a total of 15 meetings and 18 events with 29 speakers, including 8 cooperative ventures with other ASIS&T and iSchool organizations (out of 14 eligible events). A 35% increase in membership, increased event attendance, and community engagement were driven through social media, SJSU YouTube, and the new ScholarWorks repositories. Administratively, new Bylaws and enhancements to chapter management helped drive growth. SJSU members actively supported the Association through SIG leadership, social media contributions, and task force support. As of June 2015, SJSU reported the highest number of current ASIS&T student members in the chapter's 4-year history-84-, including 3 ASIS&T New Leader Award winners in the past 2 years. SJSU developed the #HUGASIG campaign that was distributed around ASIS&T this year-now we can give them a congratulatory hug!
Please join us in congratulating SJSU ASIS&T!
* Chapter Growth Awards:
The ASIS&T Student Chapter Membership Competition fosters student engagement in ASIS&T by encouraging student chapters to recruit more members. The award is based on student chapter membership growth over the last year. We are pleased to announce the 2015 Membership Competition winners:
1. Pratt Institute Student Chapter (ASIS&T at Pratt )- 117% Growth - (Three Annual Meeting free student registrations)
2. University of Denver Student Chapter - 80% Growth - (Two Annual Meeting free student registrations)
3. University at Albany Student Chapter of ASIS&T (UAlbany ASIS&T) - 50% Growth - (One Annual Meeting free student registration)
Please join us in congratulating these Student Chapters for their innovative use of programs, social activities, social media, and hard work to increase their memberships this year!
By the way, if your student chapter did not submit a report in July, you need to do it now - the deadline is Oct. 30.
We hope to see you all at the ASIST conference in St Louis. We will post more details on student party.
Sincerely,
Daniel Gelaw Alemneh, University of North Texas
Karen Miller, University of South Carolina.

Are you interested in working on a progressive social-technical project
in Bangladesh with Oxfam and its partners and earning a PhD from Monash
University? You may wish to apply for this scholarship if you are
qualified. The information url is http://it.monash.edu/protic-eoi . The
deadline for Expressions of Interest is September 30 2015.
PROTIC (Participatory Research and Ownership with Technology,
Information and Change) is an innovative five-year mobile communications
international development project. It works in regional Bangladesh
trialling innovative information and communications strategies, though
participatory action research. PROTIC has a focus on empowering women
though enhancing community well-being and livelihoods in poor
agricultural communities. Community involvement, particularly women is
critical to the project in determining their information needs and
priority in conjunction with experts, rather than experts deciding what
is important. PROTIC is funded from a partnership between the Faculty?s
Centre for Community and Social Informatics (COSI), and Oxfam-
Bangladesh and supported by a $3.68 million donation from the
Empowerment Charitable Trust.

Dear colleagues, apologies for cross-posting, can you kindly inform possible candidates for these 4 positions on offer at Utrecht University, the Netherlands?
There are 3 Phd positions available and one Postdoc position available within the project ?Digital Crossings in Europe: Gender, Diaspora and Belonging? (CONNECTINGEUROPE). This project is funded by the European Research Council (ERC), by way of a Consolidator Grant awarded to the principal investigator (PI) Prof. dr. Sandra Ponzanesi (Professor of Gender and Postcolonial Studies, Utrecht University, the Netherlands) and will be running at Utrecht University, the Netherlands from 2016-2021.
3 PhD positions 'Digital Crossings in Europe. Gender, Diaspora and Belonging'(1,0 fte each) Postdoc 'Digital Crossings in Europe. Gender, Diaspora and Belonging' (0,8 FTE)
The project aims to investigate the relation between migration and digital technologies, in particular the way in which the ?connected migrant? contributes to new forms of European integration and cosmopolitan citizenship. The project explores digital diasporas in relation to issues of gender, ethnicity and affective belonging, focusing on how new technologies enhance new forms of connectivity between the homeland and destination countries, bus also across diasporas. The project pioneers a new interdisciplinary method that combines media studies, postcolonial theories, digital humanities and gender studies, drawing from the humanities and social science. It proposes a comparative approach, based on qualitative digital methods, that focuses on Somali, Romanian and Turkish women migrants who have settled in some of Europe?s main cities (London ? PhD1, Amsterdam ? PhD2 and Rome ? PhD3) and the way in which they keep digitally and emotionally connected to their homeland cities (M
ogadishu, Bucharest, Istanbul ? Postdoc). The project will chart how different forms of migration (labour, postcolonial and post socialist) impact on the new European order at the local and transnational levels.
Within the project, three PhD positions and a postdoc position (advertised separately) will be available for the following projects:
1. PhD1 - Digital Diasporas: London.
2. PhD2 - Digital Diasporas: Amsterdam.
3. PhD3 - Digital Diasporas: Rome.
4. Postdoc: The Politics of Home
The three PhDs will have to conduct fieldwork across the three migrant groups (Turkish, Somali, Romanian) in the proposed city (London, Amsterdam or Rome). The interaction, collaboration and sharing of data with the other PhDs and the postdoc is expected. The PhD and Postdoc candidates will of course have the opportunity to fill in the details of these projects or expand on them, based on their expertise, the data they gather and their own research ideas, all in consultation with the principal investigator.
If you are interested, please contact the project director, Prof. dr. Sandra Ponzanesi (s.ponzanesi at uu.nl) for more information. For a short description of the project please click the following link: www.digitaleurope.nl/.
