Dear Students and Student Chapter members,

I have been working this year with Toni Carbo on gathering histories
of ASIST Chapters, Student Chapters, and SIGs, in celebration of ASIST's
75th Anniversary. This work has now been posted and available on the
History Preconference page at
http://asist.org/asist2012/historyofASIST.html, in advance of the
Preconference. (Scroll to "ASIS&T Historical
Documents" and click 'ASIS&T Chapter & SIG Histories')

I am inviting *your* comments and additions for groups of which you are a
member, or have relevant information. The idea is that this document
centralizes information known about groups and is a pathfinder to more
in-depth resources. The document attempts to chronologize Student Chapter
establishments since the first in the 1960s, highlighting those currently
active. Please check the information presented about particular Student
Chapters (or other groups) and I will be happy to incorporate updates for
the next version. As incoming chair of SIG HFIS, I will also support future
efforts to expand our knowledge of ASIST Chapters' and SIGs histories.

Relatedly, we're very pleased that ASIS&T has digitized the 50th
Anniversary special issue of the ASIST Bulletin: Volume 14, Issue 5
(June/July 1988), available from the above page. It presents a valuable
historical perspective.

Please send me your comments on this document, as well as links to
resources that should be included. I am looking forward to hearing your
input, especially from discussions at the upcoming Preconference and Annual
Meeting.

Thank you,
Sarah
