> The Graduate School of Library and Information Science (GSLIS), University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, seeks to fill a two-year postdoctoral position beginning August 2009 to join a multi-disciplinary group of faculty and doctoral students investigating the societal role of information in a variety of dimensions. Possible areas for postdoctoral research include, but are not limited to: information in the transnational corporation, the commodification of information, changes in government information provision, the formation of national and international policies for library and information services, the social history of information infrastructures, and internet system development.

> Responsibilities:
> 
>     * Engage in research related to the study of information in society with an emphasis on historical, policy, and/or economic processes or issues
>     * Collaborate with others in GSLIS on strengthening the research focus on information in society
>     * Teach one course per year
> 
> Requirements:
> 
>     * Ph.D. in library and information science, history, communication, political science, sociology, science and technology studies, or a related area
>     * Demonstrated engagement with issues related to the study of information in society in previous research and/or teaching
>     * Interest in pursuing a career as a faculty member in an information school
> 
> The position is funded by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services. The initial appointment is for 12 months, renewable for an additional 12 months.
