A vacancy has arisen for a postdoctoral mobile HCI researcher at
Sheffield Hallam University to assist a 5 year project into User-Centred
Healthcare Design (UCHD), and to contribute to other projects in HCI for
International Development.
The post provides a unique opportunity for a user-centred technology
researcher to experience working in a cutting edge team on live design
projects. The person appointed will work as part of a multi-disciplinary
team of HCI researchers and healthcare professionals aiming to improve
user-centred service design and delivery in the NHS. Additional duties
will support technology design projects working in developing countries,
working with development professionals.
The NHS job will involve designing, developing and evaluating prototype
systems to support self management for end users who have range of
long-term conditions such as obesity, diabetes or chronic heart failure.
The work will involve working with practitioners and design researchers
as part of a strongly user-centred and participatory design process.
This work is led by Professor Peter Wright & Dr Andy Dearden at
Sheffield Hallam, Rev Mark Cobb of Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS
trust & Dr Ade Adebajo of Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, and
contributes to the South Yorkshire CLAHRC (http://clahrc-sy.nihr.ac.uk/)
Knowledge and experience of user-centred approaches to technology design
is essential to the success of the project as is willingness and ability
to work with a multi-disciplinary team of healthcare, IT and HCI
specialists in order to transfer knowledge from research into NHS practice.
The post is available for 5 years but appointments will be for 3 years
in the first instance.
