> In the German "Competence Centre for Bibliometrics" (KB), funded by the BMBF, the Institute for Research Information and Quality Assurance (iFQ), the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research (ISI) and the In-stitute for Science and Technology Studies (IWT) at Bielefeld University join forces to develop and improve bibliometric methods for the analysis of structures and achievements in science and technology.
> We invite applications for 3 PhD positions (part-time 50%, TVöD/TV-L 13)
> for three years, starting in January 2010. There will be one position in each participat-ing institute.
> Dissertation topics are supposed to be in line with the research projects pursued by the KB. These topics are:
> - the development and utilisation of bibliometric methods for evaluation and moni-toring, inter alia the development of semi-automatic and adaptive algorithms for the unification and coding of institutions and persons as well as the development of a fine-grained classification on the article level;
> - the development of context-specific indicators to measure science outputs;
> - the development of quality standards and methods of quality assurance as well as theoretically founded reliability tests of bibliometric indicators;
> - the advancement of an empirically grounded theory to improve the validity of bib-liometric indicators.
> Supervision is provided by one of the three institutes. University affiliation is provided but can also be freely chosen. Research stays at the other institutes of the Compe-tence Centre will be possible.
> The application should include a PhD proposal (five pages at most) describing the scientific objective and research questions.

> Scientific Assistant (full time, 13 TVöD)
> for the further development and validation of bibliometric methods and procedures, especially the development of quality standards and methods of quality assurance, i.e. of theoretically founded reliability tests of bibliometric indicators.
> We expect relevant experiences in bibliometrics and in the development and admini-stration of databases. The position commences November 1, 2009, and is located at the iFQ in Bonn.
> The Centre is looking for committed personalities with a very good university degree, excellent knowledge of research methods and experience in scientific project work. Excellent communication and organisational skills, the capacity for teamwork, good language skills in German and/or English and computing skills are required. We offer work in highly committed and motivated teams, diversified tasks and exciting and promising topics.
