You can sumbit it online at http://www.softconf.com/asist/StudChapYear/, or you can just send me an attached file. Please don't hesitate just because you think your chapter has done so little. It helps me to figure out how to help you if I know what's going on (or not) at the chapter level. For reasons best left alone, several juries have not been appointed -- neither chairs nor members. Volunteers are welcome!! * ProQuest Doc Dissertation. This is for completed dissertations, and this year we have 3 (Tel-Aviv University, UNC, and Univ. of New South Wales). We need a Chair and 6 jurors. Proposals are mailed so our paper is used. * ISI Doctoral Dissertation Proposal - July 1 deadline for submission - this is for dissertation proposals. All electronic. We need a Chair and six members. It should be made up of at least one non- academic researcher, one practitioner (neither a researcher nor an academic) and three information science educators, one of whom is clearly a researcher. * ISI Teacher of the Year Award. July 15 deadline for nominations (so more are welcome). We have a Chair, Ed Cortez, new Dean at University of Tennessee. I am checking now to see if other appointments to that jury were made. Please let me know ASAP if you are willing to serve or suggest I coerce/approach one of your colleagues. Suggestions welcome. _____ Richard B. Dick is far too fine a person to give me the public beating that is appropriate, but I will try to illuminate the situation to which he obliquely referred on Tuesday. It is clear now that I am absolutely incapable of getting things sufficiently back on track in my world to effectively chair the IS Education committee. I certainly hope that someone is interested and willing to take over and do this important work. Since the conference in Providence, many things have come together to make it impossible for me to do this job. My father became ill, actually while we were in Providence, went to doctors throughout November and December, went into the ER the day after Christmas, and passed away on January 26th. He left behind no will, a hurricane damaged house, a very confused financial situation and my Mother, age 83, with macular degeneration, osteoporosis, COPD, early Alzheimer's and only one possible place to live. Over the last few months I have thought that if I could get one more thing done and accomplished, just get her through one more doctor's visit, talk to one more lawyer, bank, insurance company, Medicare person, or drive to Orlando to spend another day cleaning out or repairing or otherwise prepping their house for sale just one more time, then I could get my life back and get back to my "regular" responsibilities. It was clear to Dick last month, and is finally clear to me, that I will not be back to my "regular" responsibilities for some time. I have taken steps to simplify and manage my world. I removed myself from tenure consideration last month. I quit all outside activities such as choir three months ago. I arranged for others to conduct the Florida chapter elections, but I stubbornly held on to my last leadership role in the hope that I could find a way to make it work. I was wrong. So I am out of the ASIST leadership business for the immediate future. The event that will allow me to come back will be extremely sad, but I promise that I will be very glad to return to the work of ASIST whenever that time comes. I hope to see you all in Charlotte, however briefly. Thank you again for coming to the rescue.
