This includes changes in advisors, and removal of links to chapter Web sites which had upcoming events in 1998 (or 2001 - both seem to have been good years for attention to Web sites). In any case where the chapter had an out-of-date Web site or no link, I went to the school site and searched for any place where student organizations were listed, trying to find whether there was indeed an ASIST student chapter site. In some cases I found one. In quite a few cases I found lists of student organizations, but no mention at all of the ASIST student chapter in these lists. It would be great if you could check your institution's Web information and make sure that mention is made somewhere of the ASIST student chapter, perhaps with a link to national and an e-mail link to your name for further information. And that's all the ASIST I am doing for today, Candy ------------------------- Candy Schwartz Simmons College GSLIS, 300 The Fenway Boston, MA 02115-5898, USA Vox: 617.521.2849; Fax: 617.521.3192 candy.schwartz at simmons.edu http://web.simmons.edu/~schwartz/ From candy.schwartz at simmons.edu Fri Apr 22 17:47:16 2005 From: candy.schwartz at simmons.edu (Candy Schwartz) Date: Fri, 22 Apr 2005 17:47:16 -0400 Subject: [Studentchapadv] Students Message-ID: <000001c54784$d9f4ee50$a7988c86@ad.simmons.edu> Hi Student Chapter Advisors - This is a reminder that it would be a good idea for you and your student chapter officers to start thinking about filing annual reports (which are also self-nominations for student chapter of the year). Reports are due by May 31 - which means in many cases that you can capture your current semester students and get them to do the report right after they have finished the semester and before they disappear. The report format can be found in the award submission form, which can be found here: http://www.asis.org/awards/stchyear.htm. At the top of this page there is an "E-submit" link. What you should do is get your materials all together, create the report, and then e-submit it. Please file some kind of report, even if you are not thinking of a student chapter of the year award. If you are reluctant to use the e-submission form, then jjust drop me an informal report via e-mail. I have volunteered to prepare a report for the President and the Board on student chapters. What I would like to do is some fresh thinking about what constitutes a student chapter (especially in the context of virtual classrooms), how students are assigned to student chapters, what we should expect of student chapters, how we can help student chapters, and how we can encourage student chapters. For now, if you have any thoughts to share with me or with the list, sing out. What would make your student chapter's life better/easier? What has worked for those of you with virtual student chapters, and what hasn't What can be done to help dormant chapters, or should anything be done? What kinds of programs might be offered for all students over the whole year? What about at conferences? What is your experience with student chapters of other organizations? Thanks for all and any of your thoughts Candy ------------------------- Candy Schwartz Simmons College GSLIS, 300 The Fenway Boston, MA 02115-5898, USA Vox: 617.521.2849; Fax: 617.521.3192 candy.schwartz at simmons.edu http://web.simmons.edu/~schwartz/
