[Sigvis-l] Call for papers: Visual Search and Retrieval (ASIS&T Bulletin)

The American Society for Information Science & Technology's Visualization, Images, and Sound Special Interest Group (SIG VIS) is sponsoring a special section of the Bulletin of the American Society for Information Science and Technology (http://www.asis.org/bulletin.html) on visual search and retrieval. This section could involve a broad spectrum of topics related to visually-oriented (non-text-based) methods of online information search and retrieval systems. These are not limited to, but include, the following:

-- Interface design of visually-oriented information systems
-- Perceptual and/or cognitive theories, and their application to visual search and retrieval systems
-- Information needs and use of particular user groups utilizing visual search and retrieval systems
-- Recent industry and practice developments in visual search and retrieval systems
-- Information architecture concerns in visual search and retrieval systems

The section will be published in the June/July 2009 issue of the Bulletin. Dr. Diane Neal, SIG VIS Past Chair, will serve as the section's editor. If you are interested in contributing an article to the special section, or know someone who would be qualified to write an article, please contact Diane at dneal at nccu.edu. Please keep in mind that Bulletin articles do not constitute scholarly peer-reviewed research, and are meant to be accessible to information science students and professionals at all levels.

Deadlines are as follows:

Feb. 9: Contact Diane with nominations or indication of interest in contribution
Feb. 12: Notification of chosen authors
April 1: Article drafts due
April 15: Diane submits final versions of articles to Irene Travis, Editor of the Bulletin
June: Bulletin published
