Defines missions and sets objectives for NPR's program library, music
library, reference library, transcripts, and spoken word collection;
develops policy for the libraries; supervises library staffs. Required:
Master of library science degree from an ALA-accredited institution. At
least five years of work experience in a special library; at least three
years of reference desk experience; at least five years of library
management experience; demonstrated knowledge of standard archival practices
and procedures; expertise in electronic communications technologies,
Internet development, databases and other advances affecting audio and text
transmission, storage, retrieval, and secondary uses; demonstrated online
database search expertise; demonstrated understanding of cataloging
principles; demonstrated skill in oral presentation; proven ability to
consistently work well with others, demonstrating at all times respect for
the diverse constituencies at NPR and within the public radio system;
knowledge of current events, music and popular culture; demonstrated skill
in managing multiple priorities and crises; ability to work quickly and
efficiently under deadline pressure; demonstrated understanding of sound
organizational development, management and supervisory principles; ability
and willingness to work varied shifts. Preferred: at least five years of
news library experience; experience managing a seven-days-a-week operation
and experience working in and/or knowledge of public radio and the public
radio system.
