Web-based systems, social networks and multi-agent systems very often need these tools for working out consistent knowledge states, resolving conflicts and making decisions. ICCCI 2017 is the 9th edition of the conference organized by the University of Cyprus and Wroclaw University of Science and Technology in Poland, in cooperation with the IEEE SMC Technical Committee on Computational Collective Intelligence. The aim of the conference is to provide an internationally respected forum for scientific research in the computer-based methods of collective intelligence and their applications in (but not limited to) such fields as group decision making, consensus computing, knowledge integration, semantic web, social networks and multi-agent systems. Instructions to Authors Prospective authors of papers are invited to submit contributions for presentations at ICCCI 2017. The submissions should present the results of original research or innovative practical applications relevant to the conference topics. Practical experiences with state-of-the-art in CCI methodologies are also acceptable to reflect lessons of unique value for the conference attendees. Contributions should be original and not published elsewhere or intended to be published during the review process. The conference language is English. The conference proceedings of ICCCI 2017 will be published in the prestigious Lecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence series by Springer and indexed by ISI(CPCI-S), Web of Science, EI, Scopus, DBLP, ACM Digital Library. All submissions should follow the LNCS/LNAI style and not exceed 10 pages. At least one full registration is required for each accepted paper in order to be included in the ICCCI 2017 proceedings. Each paper is to be submitted electronically as a single PDF file through EasyChair at http://www.cs.ucy.ac.cy/~george/lm/lm.php?tk=YXNpcy5vcmcgLAkJCXNpZ3VzZS1sQGFzaXMub3JnCTl0aCBJbnRlcm5hdGlvbmFsIENvbmZlcmVuY2Ugb24gQ29tcHV0YXRpb25hbCBDb2xsZWN0aXZlIEludGVsbGlnZW5jZSAoSUNDQ0kgMjAxNyk6IFRoaXJkIENhbGwgZm9yIFBhcGVycyBhbmQgU3BlY2lhbCBTZXNzaW9ucyAmIFdvcmtzaG9wcyBQcm9wb3NhbHMJNQlMaXN0cwkyMTMJY2xpY2sJeWVzCW5v&url=https%3A%2F%2Feasychair.org%2Fconferences%2F%3Fconf%3Diccci2017 . To ensure high quality, all papers will be thoroughly reviewed by the ICCCI 2017 International Program Committee. Referees will be asked to nominate papers for a Best Paper award to be announced at the conference. All accepted papers must be presented by one of the authors who must register for the conference and pay the author registration fee. A selected number of accepted and personally presented papers, will be expanded and revised for possible inclusion in special issues of high quality scientific journals. The intersection between digital information worlds and vulnerable communities is a critical research area within the iSchools movement. There have been concerns about issues regarding bias, social exclusion, cyber-racism, cyberbullying, digital divide, misinformation, and other information sharing hazards in the information experience of vulnerable communities. We seek to bring together a community of researchers and information professionals researching in this important area of our society. We will cover research across disciplinary borders, explore new opportunities for collaboration, and lay the groundwork for a journal special issue centered on vulnerable groups. The iSchools community provides an excellent place to discuss this crucial topic at the intersection of information, society, and technology. We are going to run a workshop titled *?Vulnerable Communities in the Digital Age: Advancing Research and Exploring Collaborations?* *(VCDA2017)* at iConference 2017 to be held in Wuhan, China . Please read through this call if you would like to participate in this workshop and submit a position paper. This will be an interactive workshop to enable the fullest exchange of ideas amongst attendees. All interested researchers, graduate students, and information professionals are invited to submit a short position paper (500-1000 words) in which they outline the topic and themes to be discussed during the workshop. *Submission guidelines for position papers:* ? Author?s name, title, and institutional affiliation should be included at the top of the paper. ? Paper text must be 500-1000 words. ? Submission should be in PDF format. The file should be named as ?2017_iConferenceWorkshop_FirstAuthor?sLastName?. ? All submissions must be made via the Easychair submission system by midnight Adelaide Time on 23 January 2017. ? Accepted submissions will be made available on this webpage both before and after the workshop. *Topics include but are not limited to:* ? Vulnerable communities? experience of information technologies ? Big data and vulnerable communities ? Digital libraries and vulnerable users ? Everyday life information behaviour of older adults ? Information experience of migrants and refugees ? Information service model for minorities ? Information behaviour of indigenous people ? Homeless population, especially homeless youth ? People with disabilities ? Approaches or methods to study vulnerable groups ? Ethical challenges of studying vulnerable population Prior to the workshop, the accepted position papers will be used to organise small groups (with each group facilitated by a workshop co-organiser). *We welcome your position papers!* *For more information, please visit the workshop webpage:* http://ischools.org/the-iconference/program/workshops/#workshop2 Tentative Schedule Welcome and introduction Session 1 First keynote presentation Two short presentations (15 minutes per talk) First breakout discussion (focusing on position papers) break Session 2 Second keynote presentation Short presentation Second breakout discussion (focusing on position papers) Panel discussion with all speakers Wrap-up and next stepsImportant Dates:23 January 2017, 11:59pm ACDT: Submission deadline15 February 2017: Notification of acceptance 22-25 March 2017: iConference *Workshop Co-Organisers:* Jia Tina Du, University of South Australia, Australia Iris Xie, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, US Bhuva Narayan, University of Technology Sydney, Australia Elham Sayyad Abdi, Queensland University of Technology, Australia Huijuan Wu, Northeast Dianli University, China Ying-Hsang Liu, Charles Sturt University, Australia Lynn Westbrook, University of Texas at Austin, US Contact information: For any queries, please contact Jia Tina Du (tina.du at unisa.edu.au). One critical take-away from the last workshop was that application of neuro-physiological (NP) experimental methodologies in IIR research studies is promising but highly challenging. The 2017 workshop has three broad aims: 1) Develop a foundational knowledge of appropriate methods or adapting experimental methods in IIR that permit execution of a large range of information seeking tasks, while wearing specialized devices or being inside scanning equipment. 2) Gain a deeper and clearer understanding of the wide variety of parameters that are essential to operating the NP equipment and tuning them for particular types of information interaction events. 3) A related aim is to gain insights regarding a set of well-known NP modalities/devices and related parameters, so that they could be potentially combined to study complex information seeking phenomena. Submissions: ============== We invite submissions that may include the following topics: * findings from completed IR/IIR research that utilized neuro-physiological tools; * research questions in IR/IIR that are likely to benefit from NP methods; * comparative analysis of NP tools and techniques with their applications in IR/IIR; * data fusion methods that support combination of NP data with traditional IR/IIR data; In all types of submissions we ask the authors to describe some of the following: * how IIR research protocols were (or will be) modified to allow for use of NP tools; * why NP modalities (one or more) were selected for use in IIR research; * what lessons were learned from using NP tools in IIR research; We invite submissions in two categories: 1. papers describing completed research or methodological contributions (up to 4 pages) 2. work-in-progress - short report papers (up to 2 pages). ). The accepted WIPs would need to be submitted in poster format for poster-session presentation during the workshop.
