Please forward this message to others interested in the topic.] Call for Papers for a Special Issue in Journal of Information Privacy & Security Dear All, We are soliciting papers for a special issue in Journal of Information Privacy & Security (JIPS). Recent NSF ?Secure and Trustworthy Cyberspace? program solicitation recognizes the importance of human behavior when designing, building and using cyber security technology. Studies show that incorporating an understanding of human behavior into cyber security products and processes can lead to more effective technology (Pfleeger & Caputo, 2012). With the rapid development of emerging technologies such as Web 2.0, social media, mobile technology, virtual environment, online role-playing games, massive open online course (MOOC) systems, cloud computing and Internet of Things, better understanding of human behaviors with these emerging technologies is greatly needed. This special issue of JIPS is intended to provide an important venue for collecting high quality research and papers relating to behavioral information security research with emerging technologies. Topics of Interest (but are not limited to): ? Encouraging information security behavior with the use of emerging technologies in organizations ? Promoting secure behavior with emerging technologies among Internet users ? Organizations? security & privacy concerns with emerging technologies ? Leveraging behavioral science to mitigate cyber security risk ? Behavioral and cognitive research into security design, development, implementation, and use of emerging technologies ? Methods to train end-users to improve their cyber security behavior ? End-users? motivation of practicing secure behavior with emerging technologies ? Strategies for decreasing risky user behavior with emerging technologies ? Human factor and information security behavior ? Social engineering and emerging technologies ? Case studies of behavior information security in different industries such as health care, business, engineering, entertainment and education Tentative Important Dates: Initial submissions due: February 15, 2014 Notification to authors: March 31, 2014 Revised papers due: May 15, 2014 Publication of the issue: Fall or Winter of 2014 Submission Guidelines: Prospective authors are encouraged to submit an abstract, as early as feasible, to the Guest Editors for preliminary review on the appropriateness of their expected manuscript. Please forward your submission in Microsoft Word format by e-mail to Dr. Wu He at whe at odu.edu and Dr. Xiaohong Yuan at xhyuan at ncat.edu. You need to ensure that all identification information is removed from your manuscript and its meta-data prior to submission, as submissions will be doubled-blind reviewed. The submission guideline can be found at http://academics.utep.edu/Default.aspx?tabid=72777 . Please forward this message to others interested in the topic. Deadline in one week!] Final Call for Papers: IEEE Computer Special Issue on Collaborative Information Seeking (CIS) *Submissions due: October 15, 2013* IEEE Computer seeks submissions for a March 2014 special issue on collaborative information seeking (CIS). For many years, information retrieval has focused on individual users searching for information. Algorithms have assumed that one person is reviewing the results, and user interfaces have supported the needs of individual searchers. CIS?also referred to as collaborative information retrieval and collaborative search?focuses on the notion that information seeking is not always a solitary activity, and that people working in collaboration to perform information-seeking tasks should be studied and supported. CIS occurs in many contexts, including healthcare, business intelligence, technical fields, strategic research, information analysis, planning tasks, and everyday activities such as shopping and travel. Submissions should be original manuscripts that describe research, experiences, and software tools/algorithms/archit mediation ectures focused on support for collaborative information seeking. Specific topics include CIS theories and models; design guidelines and experiences; CIS applications in different domains, such as e-learning environments, healthcare, subiness, office work, and intelligence analysis; approaches for incorporating CIS with social search; issues related to collaborators' awareness of actions, time/space, and participants' roles; algorithmic and user of the search process; methodologies for studying CIS;, and software tools and algorithms to support collaborative search. All submissions are subject to peer review based on both technical merit and relevance to Computer's readership, which includes a large base of developers interested in information they can apply practically in their work. Accepted papers will be professionally edited for content and style. Direct inquiries to the guest editors: Chirag Shah, Rutgers University; Rob Capra, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill; and Preben Hansen, Stockholm University. Paper submissions are due 15 October 2013. For author guidelines and information on how to submit a manuscript electronically, visit http://www.computer.org/portal/web/peerreviewmagazines/computer. To register for the conference and the Symposium, please go to: http://www.asis.org/asist2013/register.html. The theme of the Symposium is Information Behavior on the Move: Information Needs, Seeking, and Use in the Era of Mobile Technologies. The Symposium will take place just before the ASIS&T Annual Meeting -- on Saturday, November 2nd, from 1:30 to 6:30 PM. Our Keynote speaker will be Dr. Caroline Haythornthwaite, Director and Professor of the School of Library, Archival & Information Studies, University of British Columbia. An abstract of Dr. Haythornthwaite's talk, as well as her bio, are provided below: ABSTRACT Expertise on the Move In an age of open source, open access, crowdsourcing, blogging, e-learning, and massive open online courses our notions of expertise are on the move. Changes in the norms and sites of information sharing, knowledge building and learning are challenging traditional structures of authority. Online journals and news sites, open access, and creative commons licenses have transformed where, how, and from whom we gain our information; online learning and now MOOCs challenge the traditional classroom setting for learning; and crowdsourcing, peer production and a move to a participatory culture transform ideas of who contributes and who retrieves. In keeping with the theme of '"Information Behavior on the Move", this talk will explore the transformations in authority arising from these many initiatives, as well as consider the impact of mobility on expertise and information behavior - mobility in location, setting, devices, as well as in medium, role, and discipline - ending with some suggestions on designing for movement and mobility in expertise and learning. BIO Caroline Haythornthwaite is Director and Professor, School of Library, Archival and Information Studies (The iSchool at UBC) at The University of British Columbia. She joined UBC in 2010 after 14 years in the Graduate School of Library and Information Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. In 2009-10, she was Leverhulme Trust Visiting Professor at the Institute of Education, University of London presenting and writing on learning networks; and in 2009 was a visiting researcher at the Brazilian Institute for Information in Science and Technology, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She has an international reputation in research on information and knowledge sharing through social networks, and the impact of computer media and the Internet on work, learning and social interaction. She is a founding member of the Society for Learning Analytics Research (SoLAR), an organization focused on bringing big data applications to learning and academic achievement. Major publications include The SAGE Handbook of E-learning Research (2007, with Richard Andrews); E-learning Theory and Practice (2011, with Richard Andrews).
