Colleagues:

Happy New Year!

You are receiving this message because 1) you have participated in SIG
USE planning sessions; 2) you have participated in the 2005 SIG USE
Symposium in Charlotte; or 3) you are on the siguse-l mailing list.
Apologies for cross-postings.

I'd like to present some information/guidelines about proposing panels
for 2006 Meeting of the American Society for Information Science &
Technology, which will be held in Austin, Texas, November 3-9, 2006.
Please note that the official deadline for proposing a panel is February
13, 2006. Full details regarding the scope of panels (and other
contributions) are available in the ASIS&T 2006 call for participation
at http://www.asis.org/Conferences/AM06/am06call.html.

There are three (3) options for "positioning" your proposed panel:

*	Option 1: Proposing a panel with SIG USE sponsorship.
o	As some of you may know, the 2006 program committee is
discouraging panel sponsors (e.g., SIGs) from submitting multiple
proposals. This is a departure from the panel vetting process of
earlier meetings, and it is unclear exactly how this will play out. At
this early stage, the plan for SIG USE is to select, sponsor, and submit
only a few sponsored panel proposals. If you would like to have SIG USE
sponsorship for your panel, please email your proposal (based on the
Electronic Submission Page guidelines at
http://www.asis.org/Conferences/AM06/AM06submit.html) to me at
riouxk at stjohns.edu and to Heidi Julien at heidi.julien at ualberta.ca. by
February 6, 2006 (please note earlier deadline).
*	Option 2: Individual panel proposal
o	We also encourage you to simply submit your proposal as an
individual directly to ASIS&T through the Electronic Submission Page at
http://www.asis.org/Conferences/AM06/AM06submit.html. As the program
for the meeting firms up, we will try to negotiate SIG USE sponsorship
for your panel.
*	Option 3: Proposing a panel in partnership with another SIG
o	You may want to consider partnering with colleagues in another
SIG. You should communicate with those colleagues and keep the SIG
chair in the loop. A list of SIG and contacts is available at
http://www.asis.org/sigschapters.html. Again, as the program for the
meeting firms up, we will try to negotiate joint SIG USE sponsorship for
your panel.

I hope this is useful!

Regards,
Kevin Rioux
