15 - 17 November 2012

Dear Colleague,

The International Advisory Board is pleased to announce the Call for Papers
for the Fourth International Conference on Science in Society and the Call
for Submissions to the peer-reviewed The International Journal of Science
in Society.

This year's Science in Society Conference will take place at the University
of California, Berkeley. Scientific study in Berkeley has long had impacts
on society, making it the perfect venue for the Fourth International
Conference on Science in Society. This year's conference will feature a
special plenary presentation by Senior Advisor, Paul Lombardo and Associate
Director, Kayte Spector-Bagdady from the Presidential Commission for the
Study of Bioethical Issues. For more details, please visit:
http://science-society.com/conference-2012/ .

The Science in Society Conference and its companion journal provide
vibrant, intellectually stimulating spaces for scholars from all geographic
and disciplinary areas to learn, converse, and create. This knowledge
community is brought together to address a common concern for disciplinary
and interdisciplinary challenges in the sciences, and in particular the
relationships of science to society.

Proposals for paper presentations, workshops, round tables or colloquia are
invited, addressing science through one of the following themes:

* Theme 1: The Values and Politics of Science
* Theme 2: The Social Impacts and Economics of Science
* Theme 3: The Knowledge Systems and Pedagogies of Science

The deadline for the next round of Call for Papers is 12 October 2012. For
full details on proposal submission and conference registration deadlines,
please visit the conference website at:
http://science-society.com/conference-2012/call-for-papers/ .

Presenters may also choose to submit written papers for publication in the
fully refereed The International Journal of Science in Society. If you are
unable to attend the conference in person, virtual registrations also
include submission to the journal for refereeing and possible publication,
as well as access to the journal.

We look forward to receiving your proposal and hope you will be able to
join us in Berkeley in November!

On behalf of the Advisory Board
International Conference on Science in Society and The International
Journal of Science in Society.
