CENDI and the Networked Knowledge Organization Systems (NKOS) Working
Group are joining together to hold this workshop on Knowledge
Organization Systems (KOS). It will be hosted by the World Bank, 1818 H
Street, NW, Washington DC on September 11, 2008. The Knowledge
Organization Systems (KOS) cover a wide range from authority files,
taxonomies, and thesauri, to formal ontologies. The workshop will focus
on advances in terminology systems and services. It will cover aspects
such as interoperability, mapping, collaborative KOS development,
metadata for terminology resources, registries and standards.  Speakers
will represent government, academic and commercial organizations from a
variety of disciplines including agriculture, the environment and
biomedicine.

NKOS (http://nkos.slis.kent.edu/) is a community of more than 100
practitioners from more than 10 countries who are interested in the use
of knowledge organization systems in networked environments. This is the
eighth workshop on KOS related topics sponsored by NKOS since 1998.  

CENDI (www.cendi.gov <http://www.cendi.gov/> ) is an interagency working
group of senior scientific and technical information managers from 13
U.S. federal agencies. CENDI's mission is to help improve the
productivity of federal science- and technology-based programs through
effective scientific, technical, and related information-support
systems. CENDI's Terminology Resources Task Group provides educational
opportunities, promotes best practices, and conducts research projects
in the area of knowledge organization systems for CENDI members.
