We have an excellent opportunity for a Reference Librarian at our corporate 
headquarters in Lincolnshire, IL.

Description Objectives: The purpose of this position is to provide for
the information needs of assigned groups and in support of compound
teams with both database searching, alerting services and training in
the optimal use of the Intelligencenter resources.

Accountabilities: Provides reference and research services involving
clinical, business and government document databases, literature and all
other appropriate resources to support the scientific, regulatory and
business needs of Takeda to assigned groups and in support of compound
teams.

Responsible for providing or arranging training for functional areas and
individuals in the use the Intelligencenter and other library online
resources or software, especially those services important to the
assigned groups. Each group should be offered training on new resources
or updated resources annually.

Contributes in the evaluation, choice and acquisition of databases,
websites, journals, books, documents, government documents, contracts,
library equipment, library software and technology and their vendors.
Contributes in the development Takeda's desktop virtual library, the
Intelligencenter, for access by home office employees. This Intranet
will be directly focused on Takeda's research and business needs;
includes external resources and the building of an internal database of
resources of medical literature related to Takeda's products.

Responsible in providing alerting services (NewsEdge, news, e-tables of
contents and topic alerts) to assigned groups and in support of compound
teams. If assigned a Phase 3 compound, responsible for developing the
resources for that compound in the TPNA database. This includes in
conjunction with key stakeholders: 1) developing and executing ongoing
expert searches 2) selecting the key documents and conference abstracts
on an ongoing basis

Responsible for communication with key contacts in each assigned group
and assigned compound team to be aware of changes in needs and the need
to respond. Shares responsibility for having knowledge and being in
compliance with copyright laws, vendor licensing restrictions and FDA
restrictions in regards to the provision of scientific and business
information

Additional duties as assigned.

Work Environment: Due to travel, the work environment includes exposure
to both inside and outside working conditions. Temperature and length of
exposure varies depending upon meeting location and transportation.

NOTE:  North American Residents Only. Employer will assist with
relocation costs. Salary depends on qualifications

Qualifications Required: Master's Degree in Library Science from an ALA
accredited program 3 years experience in a pharmaceutical, university
medical or corporate library

Desired: Specialization in medical or scientific librarianship and
college level biology or chemistry courses Certified at minimum at the
Regular level by the Medical Library Association's Academy of Health
Information Professionals Expertise and work experience with scientific,
clinical, business, regulatory and pipeline databases.

Knowledge: Product Knowledge: understands medical/therapeutic impact of
products; understanding of potential product applications Industry
Knowledge: understands medicine, the healthcare environment, the
pharmaceutical industry and the regulatory environment

Skills: Research Skills: expert DIALOG, Ovid and Internet searching
skills and the ability to conduct an expert reference interview and
translate the client's question to query the databases accurately and
comprehensively. Communication Skills: ability to express oneself
clearly and concisely to customers over the phone or with others within
team; documents issues and/or concerns concisely and comprehensively;
adjusts language and/or terminology appropriate for the audience
Interpersonal Flexibility: ability to adapt to other personalities in a
respectful manner that is conducive to goal achievement Knowledge
Sharing: ability to capture knowledge within the organization; improves
solutions, processes, and deliverables through use of information;
improves information capital by contributing experience, theories,
deliverables and models for others to use Business Skills: ability to
proactively capture, summarize or analyze, package, and disseminate
current information to fit the business and scientific needs of
individuals and functional or therapeutic groups Training Skills:
ability to teach effective searching skills; introduce clients to the
Intelligencenter resources. Learning Skills: ability to learn new
software products, databases, vocabulary quickly and comprehensively,
enough to train and support others in their use. Analytical Skills:
ability to identify information gaps, needs, problems or opportunities
and then using appropriate information sources, determine the causes and
possible solutions to the problem.

Physical Demands: Ability to be able to read and focus (computer screen
or paper) for long periods of time. Ability to be able to speak clearly
for the training of others. Ability to carry books, reach for objects,
manual dexterity required to operate office equipment. Ability to sit
for long periods of time. Ability to drive or fly to various
meetings/client sites; limited overnight. Some international travel may
be required.
