Hi everyone -- I'm Kris Liberman, the current chair of SIG MGT and I wanted to
give you an update on SIG activities so far this year:

The SIG met in Austin in November and we came up with a number of ideas for
panels for the 2007 ASIST Annual Meeting, "Joining Research and Practice:
Social Computing and Information Science," being held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin
in October (see the call for papers at
http://www.asis.org/Conferences/AM07/am07cfp.html). There was a strong theme at
this annual meeting of encouraging more practitioner-based panel sessions for
next year and SIG MGT is well-suited for that, having always had a healthy mix
of academic and business in its membership.

Our panel sessions ideas included the following:

? Corporate Blogging -- how corporations are dealing with blogging in three
areas -- blogs created for internal communication, those created for
communication to customers, and those created by competitors (to be submitted
by Kris Liberman)
? Organizational Competencies of Firms -- discussing knowledge held
collectively (to be submitted by Bill Edgar)
? Collaborative Librarianship -- based on an upcoming special issue of the
ASIST Bulletin (to be submitted by Bill Edgar)
We also received two ideas for panels through the SIG MGT website survey that
Deborah Barreau and her students sent to members this past fall:
? Understanding metrics gaining visibility helping other technical writers to
think of themselves as "sellers"
? Issues related to the challenges of managing organizations and people who
rely upon mobile technology, like Blackberrys -- possibly co-sponsored with
SIG-Social Informatics

Please submit your proposed talks for the Corporate Blogging, Organizational
Competencies of Firms, and Collaborative Librarianship to the person submitting
the panel proposal. Please submit your proposed talks for the Metrics or
Challenges to Managing Organizations to Kris Liberman.

Please consider submitting a different SIG MGT sponsored proposal. We are happy
to support the proposal creation process in any way that we can -- and we'd love
to hear ideas for additional proposals or possible speakers for the panels
listed above.. You can email your ideas to any of the current officers or
submit a panel directly to
http://www.softconf.com/asis/AM07_panels_and_Technical_Sessions/submit.html
(noting in the title that it is sponsored by "SIG MGT").

Some additional feedback from the survey included suggestions that the website
showcase current or forthcoming publications that are relevant to the field of
management, maintain a calendar of events, and provide RSS feeds for updates.
Would anyone be willing to help us make these a reality?

Bill Edgar, as the previous chair, did great work with the SIG over the last few
years -- and we'd like to keep that momentum going with updates to the website
and strong submissions for '07 -- and we need member support to accomplish
that! We hope to hear from you.

A happy new year to all!
