Abstract:
ObjectivesEffective healthcare systems require high-quality research to
guide evidence-based interventions and strategic planning. In low- and
middle-income countries, especially those emerging from violent
conflict, research capacity often lags behind other aspects of health
system development. Here, we sought to bibliometrically review
health-related research output in Somaliland, a post-conflict
self-declared, autonomous nation on the Horn of Africa, as a means of
assessing research capacity.
MethodsWe reviewed articles on health-related research conducted in
Somaliland between 1991 and 2013 that included a description of the
experimental design, and articles were published in either a
peer-reviewed journal or as part of a scholarly programme receiving
formal review. We did not include policy or social science research that
did not enrol or interact with subjects from Somaliland. Using online
databases, all studies meeting minimum eligibility criteria were
reviewed in regard to Somaliland-based co-authorship, topic of research
and specific measures of quality.
ResultsA total of 37 studies were included in this review. Of these,
only 19 (51%) included co-authorship by Somaliland-based researchers. Of
the 21 studies reporting ethical approval, 16 (64%) received approval
from the Somalia or Somaliland Ministry of Health, while five received
approval from a university or national commission. More than two-thirds
of published research was limited to a few areas of investigation with
most (19, 51%) following basic cross-sectional study designs. The number
of articles published per year increased from 0 to 1 in the years
1991-2007 to a maximum of 8 in 2013.
ConclusionsResearch activity in Somaliland is extremely limited.
Investigators from high-income countries have largely directed the
research agenda in Somaliland; only half of the included studies list
co-authors from institutions in Somaliland. Leadership and governance of
health research in Somaliland is required to define national priorities,
promote scholarly activity and guide the responsible conduct of
research. The methods used here to assess research capacity may be
generalisable to other low- and middle-income countries and
post-conflict settings to measure the impact of research
capacity-building efforts.

Abstract:
Purpose
To examine whether National Institutes of Health (NIH) funded articles
that were archived in PubMed Central (PMC) after the release of the 2008
NIH Public Access Policy show greater scholarly impact than comparable
articles not archived in PMC.
Methods
A list of journals across several subject areas was developed from which
to collect article citation data. Citation information and cited
reference counts of the articles published in 2006 and 2009 from 122
journals were obtained from the Scopus database. The articles were
separated into categories of NIH funded, non-NIH funded and whether they
were deposited in PubMed Central. An analysis of citation data across a
five-year timespan was performed on this set of articles.
Results
A total of 45,716 articles were examined, including 7,960 with
NIH-funding. An analysis of the number of times these articles were
cited found that NIH-funded 2006 articles in PMC were not cited
significantly more than NIH-funded non-PMC articles. However, 2009 NIH
funded articles in PMC were cited 26% more than 2009 NIH funded articles
not in PMC, 5 years after publication. This result is highly significant
even after controlling for journal (as a proxy of article quality and
topic).
Conclusion
Our analysis suggests that factors occurring between 2006 and 2009
produced a subsequent boost in scholarly impact of PubMed Central. The
2008 Public Access Policy is likely to be one such factor, but others
may have contributed as well (e.g., growing size and visibility of PMC,
increasing availability of full-text linkouts from PubMed, and indexing
of PMC articles by Google Scholar).

Abstract:
Biomedical literature is an essential source of biomedical evidence. To
translate the evidence for biomedicine study, researchers often need to
carefully read multiple articles about specific biomedical issues. These
articles thus need to be highly related to each other. They should share
similar core contents, including research goals, methods, and findings.
However, given an article r, it is challenging for search engines to
retrieve highly related articles for r. In this paper, we present a
technique PBC Passage-based Bibliographic Coupling) that estimates
inter-article similarity by seamlessly integrating bibliographic
coupling with the information collected from context passages around
important out-link citations references) in each article. Empirical
evaluation shows that PBC can significantly improve the retrieval of
those articles that biomedical experts believe to be highly related to
specific articles about gene-disease associations. PBC can thus be used
to improve search engines in retrieving the highly related articles for
any given article r, even when r is cited by very few or even no)
articles. The contribution is essential for those researchers and text
mining systems that aim at cross-validating the evidence about specific
gene-disease associations.

Abstract:
Universities have had to develop new strategies to raise their profile
in the international marketplace. In Malaysia, as in many other nations,
publication in ISI-ranked journals is a crucial factor. This focus is
causing a strain on national journals that suffer from a lack of
content, institutional support, and national recognition. This paper
presents data about Malaysian journal publishing and the study
questioned editors in chief of Malaysian journals to obtain opinions of
the problems they encounter and possible solutions. Data were collected
through interviews. The participants in the study highlighted four main
issues that resulted in a weak publishing environment: institutional
reputation building (academic reputation), researcher prestige/image
building, lack of focus on local journal issues by legislators, and a
weak publishing culture. The article concludes that the Malaysian
Ministry of Higher Education should pay attention to national
initiatives in countries such as India and Australia that recognize
national journals and reward researchers for publishing in them. (C)

Abstract:
Objective: A comprehensive bibliometric analysis was conducted on
publications for yoga therapy research in clinical populations. Methods:
Major electronic databases were searched for articles in all languages
published between 1967 and 2013. Databases included PubMed, PsychInfo,
MEDLINE, IndMed, Indian Citation Index, Index Medicus for South-East
Asia Region, Web of Knowledge, Embase, EBSCO, and Google Scholar.
Nonindexed journals were searched manually. Key search words included
yoga, yoga therapy, pranayama, asana. All studies met the definition of
a clinical trial. All styles of yoga were included. The authors
extracted the data. Results: A total of 486 articles met the inclusion
criteria and were published in 217 different peer-reviewed journals from
29 different countries on 28,080 study participants. The primary result
observed is the three-fold increase in number of publications seen in
the last 10 years, inclusive of all study designs. Overall, 45% of the
studies published were randomized controlled trials, 18% were controlled
studies, and 37% were uncontrolled studies. Most publications originated
from India (n=258), followed by the United States (n=122) and Canada
(n=13). The top three disorders addressed by yoga interventions were
mental health, cardiovascular disease, and respiratory disease.
Conclusion: A surge in publications on yoga to mitigate disease-related
symptoms in clinical populations has occurred despite challenges facing
the field of yoga research, which include standardization and
limitations in funding, time, and resources. The population at large has
observed a parallel surge in the use of yoga outside of clinical
practice. The use of yoga as a complementary therapy in clinical
practice may lead to health benefits beyond traditional treatment alone;
however, to effect changes in health care policy, more high-quality,
evidence-based research is needed.

Abstract:
A growing literature examines the reliability of commonly used metrics
for journal quality, such as journal impact factors. The present paper
shows that month of publication can have a significant impact on the
number of times an article is cited in the two years following
publication. Combined with existing research, this finding suggests
economics departments should rely less on these commonly used measures
of journal quality when making tenure and promotion decisions and focus
more effort on direct assessments of the faculty member's work. Given
the shift towards online dissemination, the findings also suggest
publishers should consider moving to a more frequent publication
schedule in order to disseminate the research in a more timely fashion.

Abstract:
In 2014 we undertook a survey on the shifts in scholarly publishing in
connection with the introduction of open access journals. The editors of
more than half of the journals published in the Czech Republic
participated in the first part of the study. An extensive questionnaire
survey that addressed about 600 editorial boards of specialized journals
was performed. We found the majority of journals to be published by
smaller and non-traditional publishers. One of the most remarkable
results was the finding that if we focus on economic models and
peer-review models, open access journals do not differ considerably from
other journals. Rather than according to the mode of access, much more
significant differences may be observed between different types of
publishers and between individual fields. It seems that on a local level
the expectations associated with open access have not been fulfilled and
the difference between subscription-based journals and open access
journals is not so sharp. (C) Ladislava Zbiejczuk Sucha and Jela

Abstract:
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: The growing number of subspecialties within
neuroradiology compete for pages in neuroradiology journals. We
performed a bibliometric analysis of the American Journal of
Neuroradiology to identify the virtual *Impact Factor* of different
journal subsections and article topics.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Original Research and Review Articles published
in American Journal of Neuroradiology during 2010-2012 were evaluated.
The journal section for each article was recorded, and the number of
citations was evaluated by using the Web of Science database. Numbers of
citations within the first 2 years after publication were evaluated,
normalized to the 2013 journal *Impact Factor* (for American Journal of
Neuroradiology, 3.675), and used to calculate a virtual *Impact Factor*
for different journal subsections.
RESULTS: One thousand forty-nine Original Research and Review Articles
were published during this time, which obtained an average of 6.59
citations each within their first 2 years after publication; 91.8% of
articles obtained at least 1 citation. Expedited Publications had the
greatest number of citations, averaging 43.7 citations each (virtual
*Impact Factor*, 24.39), followed by Review Articles averaging 9.39
citations each (virtual *Impact Factor* 5.23). Virtual Impact Factors
for other sections were the following: Interventional, 4.54; Brain,
3.70; Pediatrics, 2.91; Functional, 2.74; Head & Neck, 2.24; and Spine,
1.86. Virtual Impact Factors for article topics were the following:
interventional, 4.75; functional/advanced, 3.79; brain, 3.66;
pediatrics, 2.99; head and neck, 2.46; and spine, 2.32.
CONCLUSIONS: Citation patterns of Original Research and Review Articles
in American Journal of Neuroradiology varied widely on the basis of
subsections. Understanding the citation patterns of specific topics and
subsections of a journal may aid authors and editors in evaluating the
appropriate balance among various topics and allow authors to determine
whether their articles are being cited at a level expected for similar
ones in a journal.

Abstract:
There is a paucity of studies that compare the differences in published
articles submitted from the East and the West in the area of
neurogastroenterology and motility (NM). To compare the article topics
from the East and the West which have been published, 5 Western
(Gastroenterology, Gut, American Journal of Gastroenterology, American
Journal of Physiology-Gastrointestinal and Liver Physiology, and
Neurogastroenterology and Motility) and 3 Eastern gastrointestinal
journals (Journal of Gastroenterology, Journal of Gastroenterology and
Hepatology, and Journal of Neurogastroenterology and Motility) were
selected based on the *impact factor*. Published papers were classified
into 12 categories and 60 subcategories. The titles and abstracts of
review articles, original articles, and meta-analyses from these
journals were reviewed for the last 2 years (2013-2014). In case of
Journal of Neurogastroenterology and Motility which is published
quarterly, this search was performed for 5 years (2010-2014). Of the
total 2656 reviewed articles, 842 (260 from the East and 582 from the
West) were classified into the category of NM. The most frequently
published papers from the Western researchers were categorized as
brain-gut interaction, visceral hypersensitivity, and irritable bowel
syndrome, whereas those from the Eastern researchers were categorized as
gastroesophageal reflux disease, functional dyspepsia, and irritable
bowel syndrome. This difference between the East and the West is not
just due to the journal itself, but it also depends on the author's
affiliation and their ability to perform high quality research in the
area of the NM. These data provide evidence for the research trend and
give valuable information to the researchers for determining subjects
for the study and for selecting proper journals for publishing their
studies.

Abstract:
This study revealed that the scientific interest in the genus
Macrobrachium was not restricted to a biological point of view, but
included also social and economic aspects. Many species of the genus are
subject of traditional fisheries and culture worldwide. Several research
groups across the globe have developed projects in various subject areas
on commercial or non-commercial native species of this genus. This
investigation aimed to contribute to the development of the genus
Macrobrachium research through a scientometric study. The study was
based on publications (1980 to 2013) registered in the following
databases: Biological Abstracts, ISI Web of Science, SciELO Citation
Index, BioOne, Science Direct, Scopus, and Redalyc. A total of 2165
publications on Macrobrachium in the last 33 years were included in this
analysis. The themes that yielded most posts were related to culture,
nutrition/feeding, and genetics with almost 60% of the total.
Publications concerning M. rosenbergii represented more than 60% of the
total with the remaining 40% encompassing 22 other species. Analysis
performed by geographical regions evidenced that Latin America produced
23% of the publications, South Asia 22%, and East Asia 16%. Brazil
generated 65% of the percentage mentioned for the Latin American region.
It is necessary to strengthen research on topics of basic biology,
especially those of native species. This will allow rapid progress in
the generation of production technologies sustained by a solid
biological knowledge base.

Abstract:
The bibliometric characteristics of systematic reviews (SRs) in
dermatology are unknown. We analyzed a group of 309 SRs using Scopus and
the ISI Web of Science. These 309 SRs were published between 2008 and
2012 in journals with a median journal *impact factor* of 3.63; 48.2% (n
= 149) included meta-analysis, 11.6% (n = 36) were Cochrane reviews, and
76.7% (n = 237) summarized enough evidence to inform clinical decisions.
The most common country of origin was the USA (n = 66, 21.4%), and the
most frequently studied disease was psoriasis (n = 50, 16.2%). Copyright

Abstract:
The use of library resources by Hebrew University of Jerusalem Sociology
and Anthropology graduate students was assessed through an examination
of bibliographic references cited in a sample of theses and
dissertations accepted during the academic years 2010-2013. Five
variables were identified and quantified: type of material (monographs,
journals, or other), format (print, electronic or both), language of
material (English, Hebrew, or other), year and "age" of publication, and
availability of item in Hebrew University's library holdings. Results
showed a larger percentage of citations to books than to journals, with
predominant usage of books in print format and predominant usage of
journals in print & electronic format, with English being the
predominant language for all resources cited. The median age of cited
material was 15 years, older for books than for journals. 95% of the
journals and 82% of the books were available in the University library's
holdings. These findings present a substantiated appraisal of the
University Library's ability to answer the needs of its graduate
students in the Sociology and Anthropology Department. (C) 2015 Elsevier

Abstract:
Introduction. This paper reports on an interview-based citation
behaviour study, part of a wider study of trust in information
resources, investigating why researchers chose to cite particular
references in one of their publications. Their motivations are explored,
with an emphasis on whether they regarded the reference as an
authoritative and trustworthy source, and, if so, to what extent and
why.
Method. Semi-structured critical incident interviews were carried out
with eighty-seven researchers from the UK and the USA.
Analysis. The answers were analysed using qualitative techniques and
then grouped under descriptive headings of the types of reasons for
citation provided. These were then used to create a table of these types
of reason and the frequency of their use.
Results. The motivations for citing were found to be complex and
multi-faceted but, in nearly all cases, researchers do regard the
authority and trustworthiness of the cited source as an important factor
in choosing to cite it. This suggests that citation is at least partly
an acknowledgement of the intellectual influence of the content of the
cited source. It was also found, however, that researchers have strong
social networks of trust and collaboration. They make considerable use
of these in receiving and gathering information for research and thus
context is also important in their eventual citation decisions.
Conclusions. Citing behaviour does include an acknowledgement of useful
intellectual content, but this process cannot be separated from the
researcher's position in networks of trusted social and research
influence. The digital transition has provided tools to help maintain
and develop these social networks and it has also made it easier for
researchers to investigate the credentials of the sources of documents.
This suggests that the current distinction in the literature between
normative and constructionist theories of citation behaviour may not
capture the nuanced and complex relationship between these two factors.

Abstract:
The *Impact Factor* (IF) is considered the best quality indicator for
evaluation of scientific journals but has been criticized on many
accounts, and its limitations have already been described extensively.
New bibliometrics indicators, accepted by the scientific community, has
been considered to evaluate quality ranking for journals using more
complex algorithms and other databases. The aim of this study was to
evaluated three indices of journal scientific impact: (IF), Eigenfactor
Score (ES), and SCImago Journal Rank indicator (SJR), of mainstream
Anatomy and Morphology journals in 2014. Specific anatomical and
morphological journals were selected from Anatomy & Morphology category
of Web of Science. The 2014 IFs and ESs were obtained from Journal
Citation Report(R) and the SJR from the SCImago Journal and country rank
website. We listed the journals and retrieved information by matching
their international standard serial number. All journals were compared
regarding their 2014 IF, ES and SJR and correlations between indices
were evaluated using Pearson correlation. Twenty Anatomy and Morphology
journals were identified, all indexed in both databases. The highest IF
was 17 and lower 0.318. According to Eigenfactor score, the first place
in the ranking was 0.01843 and the lower 0.00044, and to JRS the first
position to 1.795 and the last position to 0.228. None of the journals
had the same ranking to compare different indicators. Comparison between
the IF and EF as well as the SJR yielded negative correlation (r=-0.012
and r=-0.037, respectively). All the analyzed journals have the highest
standard of quality since they are indexed in the two most prestigious
databases, WoS and Scopus. IF is the main index used by researchers for
ranking the anatomy and morphology journals, but several shortcomings
should be taken into account when they are using this index alone. SJR
and ES can be more accurate quality indexes in certain conditions. It is
recommended considering all these indices when judging the quality of
the anatomy and morphology journals.

Abstract:
This study analyses the citation patterns of masters' theses and
doctoral dissertations between 2005 and 2014 in the Faculty of
Engineering at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT). The
analysis included establishing the types of materials, differences
between resources used across the departments within the faculty, the
journals referenced most frequently and the holdings of such titles by
the library and lastly the age, language and country of publication of
journal articles referenced. The study used a bibliometric approach
using various indicators to analyze the citation patterns. The
conclusion of the study shows that both masters' and doctoral students
are utilizing resources provided by the library and that the most used
resources were journals, followed by books. The study is unique in that
it provides a pattern of how both masters' and doctoral students cite
resources in their studies. It is also important in that it provides
CPUT Libraries with information on how well utilized its resources are
as well as pointing to possible areas of strengthening the holdings. The
study concludes that together with other approaches, citation analysis
still remains one of the most important tools to assess the usefulness
of library holdings for postgraduate students' research activities. (C)

Abstract:
This study examines bibliographies of student dissertations and faculty
publications in the fields of reading and educational leadership to
determine the types of items that were cited during preweb (1983-1990),
emergent (1991-1998), and post-web (1999-2014) time periods. Cited items
were examined for the following characteristics: format such as books,
journal articles, technical reports, etc.; citation age; and
scholarliness of journal articles as determined by *impact factor*.
Seventy-five student dissertations as well as 63 faculty articles
written between 1983 and 2014 were inspected, resulting in a total of
11,082 cited items. Results indicate that over all time periods students
cited a diverse set of materials including journal articles, monographs,
technical reports, and dissertations while faculty cited primarily
journal articles and monographs. Moreover, students lean toward citing
journals with a lower *impact factor* than faculty who generally cited
journals with a medium or high *impact factor*. Additionally, the
average citation age found in students' bibliographies was 12.4 years
while the average citation age for faculty publications was 9.6 years.
Cited items exhibited a continuously longer citation age from pre-web,
through emergent, to post-web years. (C) 2015 Elsevier Inc. All rights

Abstract:
This paper synthesises literature on the evolution of the academic
journal, showing that the weaknesses of the journal strategy of science
information dissemination are nothing new in the history of science. The
paper avers that information technology has provided a solution to the
age-long constraints associated with the journal. It is shown that by
expanding the public's participation in science, and by enabling
research results to be presented to the public in various formats, the
rapid development in electronic technologies has touched the essential
structure and functions of the journal. Formal and informal means of
science dissemination and communication have emerged to blur the
boundaries between journals, articles and ideas. Most significantly, the
journal as an information product has been dismembered into different
new and legitimate forms of the research effort, formerly packaged as a
single product. (C) 2015 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Title:
An informetrics view of the relationship between internet ethics, computer ethics and cyberethics

Authors:

Abstract:
Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to explore the differences and
similarities between computer ethics, internet ethics and cyberethics as
reflected in the contents of the published literature as well as the
search trends on Google.
Design/methodology/approach - The paper opted for an informetrics
approach, and more specifically content analysis, to investigate the
inter-relationships between computer ethics, internet ethics and
cyberethics. The data sources for this study included Google Trends,
Google Scholar and the Web of Science citation indexes. Different search
queries were used, depending on the structure of each data source, to
extract the relevant data sets.
Findings - Using different methods and techniques to analyse the data,
the paper provides an alternative means of investigating relationships
among concepts. The findings indicate that there is still no clear
distinction between the concepts in terms of subject and title terms
used to describe the published literature on the three concepts, as well
as the research areas where the three concepts are applied. Going by the
current trend, the paper envisages that cyberethics may, in the future,
become a broader term to include computer ethics and internet ethics.
Research limitations/implications - The data sources that were selected
for the study might have not been comprehensive in the coverage of the
published literature on the three concepts and therefore there is need
for further research, which will expand the scope of the data sources.
Practical implications - The paper's findings may apply in the practice
of indexing and abstracting as well as thesaurus construction as far as
the three terms are concerned.
Originality/value - The paper offers an alternative technique that can
be used to investigate relationships among concepts. The value of the
paper could include curriculum development of programmes dealing with
ethical issues that arise when developing and using computers and
related technologies.

Material and methods: A Web of Science search was performed using
subject categories "endocrinology & metabolism" to identify articles
published from 2010 to 2014. The total and per capita numbers of
articles and citations were analysed for different countries.
Results: A total of 79,394 articles were published on endocrinology and
metabolism from 2010 to 2014. Most were published in North America, East
Asia, and Europe. The majority (82.28%) were reported by authors in
high-income countries, 17.64% were published in middle-income countries,
and only 0.08% were published in low-income countries. Authors in the
United States published the most articles (27.38%), followed by China
(7.22%), Italy (5.70%), the United Kingdom (5.6%), and Japan (5.54%).
Articles published by authors in the United States had the most
citations (260,934). A positive correlation was found between the number
of publications and population/gross domestic product (GDP; p < 0.01).
When normalised to population size, the ranking for the most
publications was Denmark, Sweden, and the Netherlands; when normalised
to GDP, the ranking was Denmark, Greece, and the Netherlands.
Conclusions: The majority of endocrinology and metabolism articles were
published by authors from high-income countries with few from low-income
countries. The United States was the most productive country. However,
when population size and GDP were considered, some European countries
were ranked higher.

Abstract:
This study examines contemporary Political Psychology in Latin America,
by means of a bibliometric approach, for the period 2000-2010. Results
show a steady growth of the field in the region (especially in Spain,
Colombia, Mexico, Argentina and Brazil). These countries coincide with
the place to which the most productive institutions belong. In turn, the
most productive authors of the period are Argentine. The most productive
journals concentrate in Spain and Brazil. Finally, a tendency towards
individual work, with low levels of collaboration among researchers, is
observed. Based on these results, we analyze the current place that
Political Psychology has as disciplinary field in Latin America.

Abstract:
Objective To describe current levels and trends of funding for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and to recognize the current status of otolaryngologists in OSA research.
Study Design Scientometric analysis.
Methods The NIH RePORTER database was queried for the search term obstructive sleep apnea for all available years. Sex, degree, academic department, NIH funding source, geography, funding totals and years, and h-index of principal investigators (PIs) were collected and summarized.
Results A total of 397 projects spanning 1242 total funding years were funded. Of the 273 individual PIs, 33.3% (91/273) were female. Regarding credentials, 52.4% of PIs (143/273) were MD or MD/PhD, and 41.0%
(112/273) were PhD alone. Academic departments of PIs were most often medicine (34.1%), pediatrics (12.1%), cell biology/physiology (10.6%), and psychiatry (7.7%). Seven otolaryngology faculty members had received NIH funding for OSA research (2.6% of total PIs) since 2000. They accounted for 8 grants (0.25% of total grants) and $7,235,729 (1.5% of total dollars) of research funding.
Conclusion Despite studies showing increasing levels of OSA surgery being performed and major areas of research and clinical opportunity, otolaryngologists represent a small minority of OSA research funding.
This information may help direct our specialty when setting priorities regarding research funding, as research into the basic science and clinical management of OSA represents a broad and interdisciplinary pursuit.

Abstract:
Introduction. This paper reports on an interview-based citation behaviour study, part of a wider study of trust in information resources, investigating why researchers chose to cite particular references in one of their publications. Their motivations are explored, with an emphasis on whether they regarded the reference as an authoritative and trustworthy source, and, if so, to what extent and why.
Method. Semi-structured critical incident interviews were carried out with eighty-seven researchers from the UK and the USA.
Analysis. The answers were analysed using qualitative techniques and then grouped under descriptive headings of the types of reasons for citation provided. These were then used to create a table of these types of reason and the frequency of their use.
Results. The motivations for citing were found to be complex and multi-faceted but, in nearly all cases, researchers do regard the authority and trustworthiness of the cited source as an important factor in choosing to cite it. This suggests that citation is at least partly an acknowledgement of the intellectual influence of the content of the cited source. It was also found, however, that researchers have strong social networks of trust and collaboration. They make considerable use of these in receiving and gathering information for research and thus context is also important in their eventual citation decisions.
Conclusions. Citing behaviour does include an acknowledgement of useful intellectual content, but this process cannot be separated from the researcher's position in networks of trusted social and research influence. The digital transition has provided tools to help maintain and develop these social networks and it has also made it easier for researchers to investigate the credentials of the sources of documents.
This suggests that the current distinction in the literature between normative and constructionist theories of citation behaviour may not capture the nuanced and complex relationship between these two factors.

Abstract:
The Impact Factor (IF) is considered the best quality indicator for evaluation of scientific journals but has been criticized on many accounts, and its limitations have already been described extensively.
New bibliometrics indicators, accepted by the scientific community, has been considered to evaluate quality ranking for journals using more complex algorithms and other databases. The aim of this study was to evaluated three indices of journal scientific impact: (IF), Eigenfactor Score (ES), and SCImago Journal Rank indicator (SJR), of mainstream Anatomy and Morphology journals in 2014. Specific anatomical and morphological journals were selected from Anatomy & Morphology category of Web of Science. The 2014 IFs and ESs were obtained from Journal Citation Report(R) and the SJR from the SCImago Journal and country rank website. We listed the journals and retrieved information by matching their international standard serial number. All journals were compared regarding their 2014 IF, ES and SJR and correlations between indices were evaluated using Pearson correlation. Twenty Anatomy and Morphology journals were identified, all indexed in both databases. The highest IF was 17 and lower 0.318. According to Eigenfactor score, the first place in the ranking was 0.01843 and the lower 0.00044, and to JRS the first position to 1.795 and the last position to 0.228. None of the journals had the same ranking to compare different indicators. Comparison between the IF and EF as well as the SJR yielded negative correlation (r=-0.012 and r=-0.037, respectively). All the analyzed journals have the highest standard of quality since they are indexed in the two most prestigious databases, WoS and Scopus. IF is the main index used by researchers for ranking the anatomy and morphology journals, but several shortcomings should be taken into account when they are using this index alone. SJR and ES can be more accurate quality indexes in certain conditions. It is recommended considering all these indices when judging the quality of the anatomy and morphology journals.

Abstract:
The h-index is an objective and easily calculable measure that can be used to evaluate both the relevance and amount of scientific contributions of an individual author and field. The aim was to examine how the h-index of academic morphologists in Chile relates with academic rank. A descriptive and correlational study was design. We accessed the Chilean Society of Anatomy professor list in January of 2015, for analysis of academic morphologists' h-indexes using the Scopus database, and data was organized by academic rank. Also, m-Quotient was calculated. Institutional productivity was measured, and institutions were ranked on the basis of cumulative h-index, m-Quotient and the total number of publications and citations. For all morphologists analyzed, the mean h-index was 2.9 +/- 2.94 (range 0-12). The mean h-indexes were
1.9 +/- 2.135 for instructors, 2.5 +/- 2.54 for assistant, 5.1 +/- 2.89 for associate and 4.7 +/- 3.92 for professors. There was a significant relationship between h-index and academic rank (P<0.001). The m-Quotient were significantly different between assistant/associate and professors (P<0.001). By academic degree, the mean h-indexes were 1.0 +/- 1.92 for Bachelor, 1.6 +/- 2.0 for specialists, 2.3 +/- 2.26 for masters and 4.9
+/- 3.4 for Ph.D. The total number of publications for Chilean
morphologist was 1343 publications (13.85 +/- 18.392), with 5321 citations (54.86 +/- 106.392). The top 3 institutions were Universidad de La Frontera, Universidad de Chile and Pontificia Universidad Catelica de Chile. Multivariate logistic regression analysis demonstrated that h-index (P<0.001) and number of publications (P<0.001) were the best predictors of academic rank. There exists a significant relationship between h-index and academic rank, with h-index increasing with academic rank. It is a reliable tool for quantifying academic productivity within morphology, easily calculable and may be useful when evaluating decisions regarding advancement within academic morphology departments.
