Abstract:
The exploration and analysis of scientific literature collections is an
important task for effective knowledge management. Past interest in such
document sets has spurred the development of numerous visualization
approaches for their interactive analysis. They either focus on the
textual content of publications, or on document metadata including
authors and citations. Previously presented approaches for citation
analysis aim primarily at the visualization of the structure of citation
networks and their exploration. We extend the state-of-the-art by
presenting an approach for the interactive visual analysis of the
contents of scientific documents, and combine it with a new and flexible
technique to analyze their citations. This technique facilitates
user-steered aggregation of citations which are linked to the content of
the citing publications using a highly interactive visualization
approach. Through enriching the approach with additional interactive
views of other important aspects of the data, we support the exploration
of the dataset over time and enable users to analyze citation patterns,
spot trends, and track long-term developments. We demonstrate the
strengths of our approach through a use case and discuss it based on
expert user feedback.

Abstract:
Research activities relating to data envelopment analysis (DEA) have
grown at a fast rate recently. Exactly what activities have been
carrying the research momentum forward is a question of particular
interest to the research community. The purpose of this study is to find
these research activities, or research fronts, in DEA. A research front
refers to a coherent topic or issue addressed by a group of research
articles in recent years. The large amount of DEA literature makes it
difficult to use any traditional qualitative methodology to sort out the
matter. Thus, this study applies a network clustering method to group
the literature through a citation network established from the DEA
literature over the period 2000 to 2014. The keywords of the articles in
each discovered group help pinpoint its research focus. The four
research fronts identified are "bootstrapping and two-stage analysis",
"undesirable factors", "cross-efficiency and ranking", and "network DEA,
dynamic DEA, and SBM". Each research front is then examined with
key-route main path analysis to uncover the elements in its core. In
addition to presenting the research fronts, this study also updates the
main paths and author statistics of DEA development since its inception
and compares them with those reported in a previous study. (C) 2015

Abstract:
In the past two decades, centres of excellence (CoE) and other 'research
excellence initiatives' likely to increase the cumulative advantages and
stratification of science, have been implemented in many countries.
Based on empirical studies of CoE in four Nordic countries, this paper
examines how the resources provided by CoE schemes (generous long-term
funding, prestige and visibility) add to the success and growth dynamics
of the CoE. The data indicate a modified Matthew effect with ceilings
and limits avoiding excessive accumulation of resources. Important
impacts of the CoE are found, in particular in terms of enabling more
interdisciplinary collaboration and risk-taking and enhancing
international recruitment to the research areas involved. But, in
contrast to what might be expected, the CoE grant seem to add less to
the relative citation rate of those already performing at the highest
level, than for those performing at a somewhat lower level prior to the
CoE grant.

Abstract:
Citation lists and metrics applied on them are considered a leading
indication of a researchers scientific impact. In this work we consider
the publication outlet where citing papers are published in order to
extract a deeper understanding of a researcher's scientific impact.
Topics' graph, journal associations with the topics' graph and
researchers' impacts are all stored in (fuzzy) ontological structures.
The results are obtained in the form of distributed impact metrics,
which we then visualize in a suitable and intuitive manner. We report on
preliminary results and outline our ongoing and future work towards the
development of an integrated system and of reusable widgets,
respectively, that implement the proposed ideas.

Abstract:
This paper argues that objective and subjective evaluation should be
applied simultaneously to evaluate scientific journal. Moreover, the
evaluation is often made by groups and inevitably contains evaluators'
subjective judgments. Accordingly, this paper develops a hybrid fuzzy
multi-criteria group evaluation and statistics method which considers
objective and subjective evaluations, i.e., bibliometric measures and
peer review opinions simultaneously. A model is established to achieve

Abstract:
The exploration and analysis of scientific literature collections is an
important task for effective knowledge management. Past interest in such
document sets has spurred the development of numerous visualization
approaches for their interactive analysis. They either focus on the
textual content of publications, or on document metadata including
authors and citations. Previously presented approaches for citation
analysis aim primarily at the visualization of the structure of citation
networks and their exploration. We extend the state-of-the-art by
presenting an approach for the interactive visual analysis of the
contents of scientific documents, and combine it with a new and flexible
technique to analyze their citations. This technique facilitates
user-steered aggregation of citations which are linked to the content of
the citing publications using a highly interactive visualization
approach. Through enriching the approach with additional interactive
views of other important aspects of the data, we support the exploration
of the dataset over time and enable users to analyze citation patterns,
spot trends, and track long-term developments. We demonstrate the
strengths of our approach through a use case and discuss it based on
expert user feedback.

Abstract:
The question of how the incentives of national performance-based
research funding systems affect local management practices within the
higher education sector has high empirical and theoretical importance,
but has so far received limited attention. From a traditional
organization theory perspective the Norwegian system represents a
puzzle: it is of marginal economic importance and the external pressure
to fully implement the system at local levels is weak. A loose coupling
between the national system and the local implementation would therefore
be expected. Yet, in many instances we document a quite tight coupling
between system-level incentives and local practices. Based on a recent
evaluation of the Norwegian model, which identifies a number of indirect
mechanisms that contribute to the trickling down of incentives, this
paper shows that traditional coupling perspectives are oversimplistic. A
large variation across institutions, fields and departments is, however,
also observed and possible explanations for this are discussed.

Abstract:
This paper argues that objective and subjective evaluation should be
applied simultaneously to evaluate scientific journal. Moreover, the
evaluation is often made by groups and inevitably contains evaluators'
subjective judgments. Accordingly, this paper develops a hybrid fuzzy
multi-criteria group evaluation and statistics method which considers
objective and subjective evaluations, i.e., bibliometric measures and
peer review opinions simultaneously. A model is established to achieve

Abstract:
The exploration and analysis of scientific literature collections is an important task for effective knowledge management. Past interest in such document sets has spurred the development of numerous visualization approaches for their interactive analysis. They either focus on the textual content of publications, or on document metadata including authors and citations. Previously presented approaches for citation analysis aim primarily at the visualization of the structure of citation networks and their exploration. We extend the state-of-the-art by presenting an approach for the interactive visual analysis of the contents of scientific documents, and combine it with a new and flexible technique to analyze their citations. This technique facilitates user-steered aggregation of citations which are linked to the content of the citing publications using a highly interactive visualization approach. Through enriching the approach with additional interactive views of other important aspects of the data, we support the exploration of the dataset over time and enable users to analyze citation patterns, spot trends, and track long-term developments. We demonstrate the strengths of our approach through a use case and discuss it based on expert user feedback.

Abstract:
Research activities relating to data envelopment analysis (DEA) have grown at a fast rate recently. Exactly what activities have been carrying the research momentum forward is a question of particular interest to the research community. The purpose of this study is to find these research activities, or research fronts, in DEA. A research front refers to a coherent topic or issue addressed by a group of research articles in recent years. The large amount of DEA literature makes it difficult to use any traditional qualitative methodology to sort out the matter. Thus, this study applies a network clustering method to group the literature through a citation network established from the DEA literature over the period 2000 to 2014. The keywords of the articles in each discovered group help pinpoint its research focus. The four research fronts identified are "bootstrapping and two-stage analysis", "undesirable factors", "cross-efficiency and ranking", and "network DEA, dynamic DEA, and SBM". Each research front is then examined with key-route main path analysis to uncover the elements in its core. In addition to presenting the research fronts, this study also updates the main paths and author statistics of DEA development since its inception and compares them with those reported in a previous study. Abstract:
In the past two decades, centres of excellence (CoE) and other 'research excellence initiatives' likely to increase the cumulative advantages and stratification of science, have been implemented in many countries.
Based on empirical studies of CoE in four Nordic countries, this paper examines how the resources provided by CoE schemes (generous long-term funding, prestige and visibility) add to the success and growth dynamics of the CoE. The data indicate a modified Matthew effect with ceilings and limits avoiding excessive accumulation of resources. Important impacts of the CoE are found, in particular in terms of enabling more interdisciplinary collaboration and risk-taking and enhancing international recruitment to the research areas involved. But, in contrast to what might be expected, the CoE grant seem to add less to the relative citation rate of those already performing at the highest level, than for those performing at a somewhat lower level prior to the CoE grant.

Abstract:
Citation lists and metrics applied on them are considered a leading indication of a researchers scientific impact. In this work we consider the publication outlet where citing papers are published in order to extract a deeper understanding of a researcher's scientific impact.
Topics' graph, journal associations with the topics' graph and researchers' impacts are all stored in (fuzzy) ontological structures.
The results are obtained in the form of distributed impact metrics, which we then visualize in a suitable and intuitive manner. We report on preliminary results and outline our ongoing and future work towards the development of an integrated system and of reusable widgets, respectively, that implement the proposed ideas.

Abstract:
This paper argues that objective and subjective evaluation should be applied simultaneously to evaluate scientific journal. Moreover, the evaluation is often made by groups and inevitably contains evaluators'
subjective judgments. Accordingly, this paper develops a hybrid fuzzy multi-criteria group evaluation and statistics method which considers objective and subjective evaluations, i.e., bibliometric measures and peer review opinions simultaneously. A model is established to achieve maximum group consensus. To determine the criteria weights, this paper applies an intuitionistic fuzzy weighted averaging operator and to obtain the evaluator weights, a fuzzy distance-based method is used.
Thereafter, this paper uses TOPSIS method to aggregate the objective and subjective ratings. Finally, a practical case study is presented.

Abstract:
Online reviews as a major form of user-generated contents play a
strategic role in eliminating information asymmetry and facilitating
transactions in electronic markets. To improve market efficiency, many
online retailers use helpfulness voting as a crowdsourcing strategy to
identify and rank online reviews. In this study, we analysed a data set
of 2187 reviews as well as more than two months' review ranking data
collected from six best-selling products on amazon.com. We found that a
disproportionately higher percentage of votes went to early-posted
lengthy reviews due to the Matthew effect. We also found that early
reviews, once identified as most helpful, could maintain their top
ranking status throughout the product life cycle because of the Ratchet
effect. The implications of these findings were discussed and strategies
for how to mitigate negative impacts of such effects by online retailers
were suggested.

Abstract:
Cooperation among organizations is crucial in many fields of sport
management. However, little is known about how and why
interorganizational cooperation occurs. In this study, cooperative
relations among organizations were investigated in an informal sport
tourism network in a German community and its surrounding area to
explore the structure of interorganizational cooperation and demonstrate
the value of social network analysis methods for understanding
mechanisms of interorganizational cooperation. Statistical network
analyses based on relational data revealed that the network of
cooperation is sparse but characterized by substantial clustering,
indicating a tendency for cooperation to occur in triangular structures.
The most central network actor was a local sports agency, but there was
no mechanism of preferential attachment. Other significant mechanisms
for cooperative tie formation were brokerage and hornophily regarding
organizational aims. Lack of time and incompatible goals are the most
important barriers to cooperation. The results add to prior qualitative
studies and provide implications for managing sport tourism networks.

Abstract:
Bibliometric studies, which involve the use of statistical methods, are
increasingly being used for research assessment. A bibliometric analysis
was conducted to evaluate the publication pattern of methaemoglobinaemia
research output at the global level based on the Scopus database. We
analysed selected documents with "methemoglobinemia", or
"methaemoglobinaemia" as a part of the title and reported the following
parameters: trends of publication output, country of publication,
journal pattern, collaborative measures, citations pattern, and
institute productivity. A total of 1770 articles were published
worldwide. The time trend for the number of articles showed an increase
after 2000. The highest number of articles related to
methaemoglobinaemia was from the USA (24.8 %), followed distantly by the
UK (4.5 %), India (3.7 %), and France (3.7 %). No data related to
methaemoglobinaemia were published from 152 countries. The total number
of citations at the date of data collection was 10,080, with an average
of 5.7 citations per document. The USA and UK had the highest h-index of
31 and 14, respectively, and six countries had an h-index of 9-14. It is
notable that Canada was ranked eighth in the number of publications but
fourth in h-index and India was ranked third in the number of
publications but eighth in h-index. Furthermore, Canada produced the
most internationally collaborated papers out of the total number of
publications for each country (16.1 %), followed by the UK (13.9 %).
This bibliometric analysis provides data contributing to a better
understanding of the methaemoglobinaemia research field. The number of
publications on methaemoglobinaemia increased significantly after 2000.
The USA was the most productive country as measured by total
publications. The USA and UK achieved the highest h-index in the field
of methaemoglobinaemia research, signifying a higher quality of research
than other countries.

Abstract:
This paper proposes a new index for evaluating the scientific
achievement of individual scientists, based on improving the popular
h-index, whilst endeavoring to keep the merits of h-index and remove the
demerits. The gist of computation algorithm for the new index is to
regard the average times of cites for the publications selected.
Besides, several accessional principles are also discussed, with
considering the specific situation of China.
