Fwd: The Book Citation Index Series

Dear colleagues,

During the last months we have been working on a series of analyses on the
possibilities of the Thomson Reuters Book Citation Index database for
bibliometric purposes. In them we address the main limitations found, the
potential interest the BKCI has for the assessment of the Social Sciences
and some analyses on the citation patterns of books and book chapters.
Particularly we have undertaken the following studies:

- Torres-Salinas, D.; Robinson-Garcia, N.; Campanario, J.M.; Delgado
López-Cózar, E. Coverage, specialization and impact of scientific
publishers in the 'Book Citation Index'. Online Information Review.

In press. In which we offer a first approach to the BKCI and we examine the
coverage by disciplines, language and country of the BKCI. This paper will
be made available OA as soon as it is published by the journal.

López-Cózar, E. (2012). Towards a 'Book Publishers Citation Reports'. First
approach using the 'Book Citation Index'. Revista Española de Documentación

Here we analyze the possibility of developing a Book Publishers Citation
Reports for the Social Sciences similar to the JCR establishing an analogy
between journals and publishers. This paper is available OA at:

Fdez-Valdivia, J.; García, J.A. (2013). Mapping citation patterns of book
chapters in the Book Citation Index. Journal of Informetrics, 7(2):
412-424. doi: 10.1016/j.joi.2013.01.004.

This is our most recent study. In it we analyze the citation patterns of
book chapters by means of their information gain. Representing similarities
between the standard of the discipline according to the BKCI and each
publisher through heliocentric maps. This paper is available OA at:
