Abstract:
A common problem faced by geography departments, particularly during times of fiscal compression and mounting pressure for accountability, is how to compare themselves and their faculty with others. The recent revolution in bibliometrics provides a growing volume of data that can be used in benchmarking exercises. In this article, we assess the production and citation of journal articles and books by tenure-track and tenured faculty in selected U.S. and Canadian geography departments (n = 17) according to a set of readily derived and transparent performance indicators derived from publicly available data. Scopus was used to assess article production and citation; Google Scholar was used for book citation. Results point to significant heterogeneity in department characteristics, productivity, and citation of published work. The number of publications, citations, and h-Index scores among scholars in the sample (n = 369) is related strongly to academic age and subfield of enqui!
ry (i.e., physical or human geography) but notdespite apparently marked differences in output and citations-to gender.

Abstract:
Bioinformatics is a fast-growing, diverse research field that has recently gained much public attention. Even though there are several attempts to understand the field of bioinformatics by bibliometric analysis, the proposed approach in this paper is the first attempt at applying text mining techniques to a large set of full-text articles to detect the knowledge structure of the field. To this end, we use PubMed Central full-text articles for bibliometric analysis instead of relying on citation data provided in Web of Science. In particular, we develop text mining routines to build a custom-made citation database as a result of mining full-text. We present several interesting findings in this study. First, the majority of the papers published in the field of bioinformatics are not cited by others (63 % of papers received less than two citations). Second, there is a linear, consistent increase in the number of publications. Particularly year 2003 is the turning point in terms!
of publication growth. Third, most researches of bioinformatics are driven by USA-based institutes followed by European institutes. Fourth, the results of topic modeling and word co-occurrence analysis reveal that major topics focus more on biological aspects than on computational aspects of bioinformatics. However, the top 10 ranked articles identified by PageRank are more related to computational aspects. Fifth, visualization of author co-citation analysis indicates that researchers in molecular biology or genomics play a key role in connecting sub-disciplines of bioinformatics.

Abstract:
According to the articles related to remote sensing of SCI and SSCI databases during 1991-2010, this study evaluated the geographical influence of authors by the new index (geographical impact factor), and revealed the auctorial, institutional, national, and spatiotemporal patterns in remote sensing research. Remote sensing research went up significantly in the past two decades. Imaging science & photographic technology was the important subject category. International Journal of Remote Sensing was the top active journal. All authors were mainly concentrated in North America, Western Europe, and East Asia. Jackson TJ from USDA ARS was the most productive author, Coops NC from University of British Columbia had more high-quality articles, and Running SW from University of Montana carried the greatest geographical influence. The USA was the largest contributor in global remote sensing research with the most single-country and internationally collaborative articles, and the NAS!
A was the most powerful research institute. The international cooperation of remote sensing research increased distinctly. Co-word analysis found the common remote sensing platform and sensors, revealed the widespread adoption of major technologies, and demonstrated keen interest in land cover/land use, vegetation, and climate change. Moreover, the remote sensing research was closely correlated with the satellite development.

Abstract:
The current study uses social network analysis to explore one aspect of cross-disciplinary connections in community psychology-citations from articles published in community psychology's main journals (i.e., American Journal of Community Psychology and Journal of Community Psychology) to allied disciplines in 2009. Results indicate that although community psychology journals cited a wide range of disciplines, their levels of citation to any individual journal in another discipline never exceeded 10% of their total network citations. Additionally, journals in other disciplines did not exhibit many citations to community psychology journals. Observed homophily measures indicate that community psychology journals have more cross-disciplinary citations than articles published in the flagship journals of clinical psychology, sociology, and public health. However, relative homophily measures suggest that community psychology journals are also far more likely to cite within discipl!
ine than expected by chance. Implications and future directions for cross-disciplinary endeavors in community psychology are suggested.

Abstract:
The process of innovation follows nonlinear patterns across the domains of science, technology, and the economy. Novel bibliometric mapping techniques can be used to investigate and represent distinctive, but complementary perspectives on the innovation process (e.g. demand' and supply') as well as the interactions among these perspectives using animations. In a map, the different perspectives can be represented as continents' of data related to varying extents over time. For example, the different branches of Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) in the Medline database provide sources of such perspectives (e.g. Diseases' vs Drugs and Chemicals'). The multiple-perspective approach enables us to reconstruct facets of the dynamics of innovation, in terms of selection mechanisms shaping localisable trajectories and/or resulting in more globalised regimes. By expanding the data with patents and scholarly publications, we demonstrate the use of this multi-perspective approach in the c!
ase of RNA Interference (RNAi). The possibility to develop an Innovation Opportunities Explorer' is specified.

Abstract:
Similarly to the h-index and other indicators, the success-index is a recent indicator that makes it possible to identify, among a general group of papers, those of greater citation impact. This indicator implements a field-normalization at the level of single paper and can therefore be applied to multidisciplinary groups of articles. Also, it is very practical for normalizations aimed at achieving the so-called size-independency. Thanks to these (and other) properties, this indicator is particularly versatile when evaluating the publication output of entire research institutions. This paper exemplifies the potential of the success-index by means of several practical applications, respectively: (i) comparison of groups of researchers within the same scientific field, but affiliated with different universities, (ii) comparison of different departments of the same university, and (iii) comparison of entire research institutions. A sensitivity analysis will highlight the succes!
s-index's robustness. Empirical results suggest that the success-index may be conveniently extended to large-scale assessments, i.e., involving a large number of researchers and research institutions.

Abstract:
The international orthopaedic community aims to achieve the best possible outcome for patient care by constantly modifying surgical techniques and expanding the surgeon's knowledge. These efforts require proper reflection within a setting that necessitates a higher quality standard for global orthopaedic publication. Furthermore, these techniques demand that surgeons acquire information at a rapid rate while enforcing higher standards in research performance. An international consensus exists on how to perform research and what rules should be considered when publishing a scientific paper. Despite this global agreement, in today's "Cross Check Era", too many authors do not give attention to the current standards of systematic research. Thus, the purpose of this paper is to describe these performance standards, the available choices for orthopaedic surgeons and the current learning curve for seasoned teams of researchers and orthopaedic surgeons with more than three decades o!
f experience. These lead to provide an accessible overview of all important aspects of the topics that will significantly influence the research development as we arrive at an important globalisation era in orthopaedics and trauma-related research.

Abstract:
The institutionally independent publications of Tsinghua University and Peking University were compared by two main indicators namely peak-year citations per publication and h-index, based on the data extracted from the Science Citation Index Expanded, Web of Science from 1974 to 2011. Analyzed aspects covered total publication outputs, annual production, impact, authorships, Web of Science categories, journals, and most cited articles. Results shows that the two universities were in the same scale based on the peak-year citations per publication, the h-index, and top cited articles with no less than 100 citations. Publication of the top three most productive Web of Science categories differed between these two universities. Tsinghua University published more articles in applied science and engineering fields, while Peking University had more basic science articles. In addition, article life was applied to compare the impact of the most cited articles and single author artic!
 les of the two universities.

Abstract:
Schubert introduced the partnership ability phi-index relying on a researcher's number of co-authors and collaboration rate. As a Hirsch-type index, phi was expected to be consistent with Schubert-Glanzel's model of h-index. Schubert demonstrated this relationship with the 34 awardees of the Hevesy medal in the field of nuclear and radiochemistry (r (2) = 0.8484). In this paper, we upscale this study by testing the phi-index on a million researchers in computer science. We found that the Schubert-Glanzel's model correlates with the million empirical phi values (r (2) = 0.8695). In addition, machine learning through symbolic regression produces models whose accuracy does not exceed a 6.1 % gain (r (2) = 0.9227). These results suggest that the Schubert-Glanzel's model of phi-index is accurate and robust on the domain-wide bibliographic dataset of computer science.

Abstract:
Certain key questions in Scientometrics can only be answered by following a statistical approach. This paper illustrates this point for the following question: how similar are citation distributions with a fixed, common citation window for every science in a static context, and how similar are they when the citation process of a given cohort of papers is modeled in a dynamic context?.

Growth dynamics of citations of cumulative papers of individual authors according to progressive nucleation mechanism: Concept of citation acceleration

Abstract:
Using data generated by progressive nucleation mechanism on the cumulative fraction of citations of individual papers published successively by a hypothetical author, an expression for the time dependence of the cumulative number L-sum(t) of citations of progressively published papers is proposed. It was found that, for all nonzero values of constant publication rate Delta N, the cumulative citations L-sum(t) of the cumulative N papers published by an author in his/her entire publication career spanning over T years may be represented in distinct regions: (1) in the region 0 < t < Theta(0) (where Theta(0) approximate to T/3), L-sum(t) slowly increases proportionally to the square of the citation time t, and (2) in the region t > Theta(0), L-sum(t) approaches a constant L-sum(max) at T. In the former region, the time dependence of L-sum(t) of an author is associated with three parameters, viz, the citability parameter), the publication rate Delta N and his/her publication car!
eer t. Based on the predicted dependence of L-sum(t) on t, a useful scientometric age-independent measure, defined as citation acceleration a = L-sum(t)/t(2), is suggested to analyze and compare the scientific activities of different authors. Confrontation of the time dependence of cumulative number L-sum(t) of citations of papers with the theoretical equation reveals one or more citation periods during the publication careers of different authors. Abstract:
This paper provides an informal guide to young researchers in science and engineering as they progress for their first 10 or so years from the time that they first started thinking about doing a PhD. This advice is drawn, with examples and anecdotes, from my own research career which started at the Cambridge Engineering Department in 1958, and progressed through 48 years at University College London to a part-time chair that I now hold in Aberdeen. I hope it may encourage and help tomorrow's scientists on whom the Earth's future very much depends.

Abstract:
This article analyses the 10 citation-based journal ranking metrics reported by Harzing's (2007) Publish or Perish (PoP) software (http://www.harzing.com/pop.htm) for 163 economics and finance journals. The results indicate that the 10 metrics produce rankings that are highly correlated. However, closer examination reveals that the variability in rank across the 10 metrics is significantly larger for some journals than others; this article identifies journals for which this is most poignant and offers possible solutions.

Abstract:
This paper describes the application of co-occurrence and latent Dirichlet allocation (LDA)-based topic analyses in stem cell-related literature research. On account of the deficiency of parameter estimation in LDA, this study integrated co-occurrence theory and clustering judgement indicators and constructed an ATNLDA (Auto Topic Number LDA) model for topic segmentation. Next, ATNLDA was used to determine the optimal topic number of stem cell research literatures from 2006 to 2011 in PubMed, which was then used for topic segmentation of research content in stem cell data set. After stem cell research topics were obtained, they were analysed in terms of topic label, topic research content and interrelation between topics. The results verified that application of ATNLDA in topic segmentation in stem cell literature research is effective and feasible. Current deficiencies of ATNLDA and future study plan were also discussed.

Abstract:
Purpose. - To analyze the results of the bibliometric system (SIGAPS score) of scientific publications in the Assistance publique-Hopitaux de Paris (AP-HP) and to compare the scientific production among the various medical and surgical specialties of the academic hospitals of Paris.
Methods. - All the publications imported from Pubmed between 2006 and 2008 were included. The following data were taken into account and analysed: the hospital department of origin, the number of articles published, the number of full-time physicians, the SIGAPS score.
Results. - Thirty-eight thousand, seven hundred and nine publications were included. The departments were consisted of 747 full-time practitioners 5719 (1895 Professors [33.1%], 2772 Assistant Professors [48.4%] and 1052 fellows [18.4%]). The average number of full-time practitioner by department was 7.7 +/- 6.7 (range 1-69). The average total number of articles published in a department was 51.8 +/- 49.4 (range 1-453). The average SIGAPS score was more important in medicine than in surgery (621.2 +/- 670.1 vs. 401 +/- 382.2; P = 0.01) but not the average number of article per practitioner (8.1 +/- 8.3 vs. 6.6 +/- 6.2; P = 0.0797). The mean number of publication by full-time practitioner was 7.9 +/- 7.8 (1-45), or an average of 2.7 +/- 2.6 for each full-time practitioner each year.
Conclusion. - Academic hospitals in Paris have a reasonably scientific output but with a mean of 2.7 articles per, full-time practitioner per year. No major differences between medical and surgical disciplines were observed. (C) 2012 Societe nationale francaise de medecine interne (SNFMI). Publie par Elsevier Masson SAS. Tous droits reserves.

Abstract:
Systems of journal ranking can be arbitrary and problematic, particularly in highly specialized academic fields where journals are of limited scope and circulation. One field in which journal ranking is problematic is interior design. This article addresses existing ranking systems for academic journals and explores the limitations of these ranking systems. An attempt is made to suggest effective methods that could be developed for ranking interior design journals. The multiple factors that need to be considered in ranking journals in such a specialized field are discussed, including ranking bias, categorical specialization, and geographic and institutional variables. Implications of this review indicate that journal ranking for interior design should be considered within the context of relevant specialized journals rather than the current practice that places interior design in a broad comparative ranking system outside of its field. Multiple cross-referencing measurements,!
including impact factors, subject-specific citation rates, and acceptance rates, as well as prestige factors based on peer perceptual ranking of interior design journals need to be implemented. Faculty and institutional evaluations need to be based on composite factors that take into account not only a meaningful journal ranking system, but also a broader, and at the same time more accurate, metric to include the actual value of the publication itself, the focus of research, and the goals of the individual and of the institution.

Abstract:
The aim of this study is to review the features, benefits and limitations of the new scientific evaluation products derived from Google Scholar, such as Google Scholar Metrics and Google Scholar Citations, as well as the h-index, which is the standard bibliometric indicator adopted by these services. The study also outlines the potential of this new database as a source for studies in Biomedicine, and compares the h-index obtained by the most relevant journals and researchers in the field of intensive care medicine, based on data extracted from the Web of Science, Scopus and Google Scholar. Results show that although the average h-index values in Google Scholar are almost 30% higher than those obtained in Web of Science, and about 15% higher than those collected by Scopus, there are no substantial changes in the rankings generated from one data source or the other. Despite some technical problems, it is concluded that Google Scholar is a valid tool for researchers in Health !
Sciences, both for purposes of information retrieval and for the computation of bibliometric indicators. (C) 2012 Elsevier Espana, S.L. and SEMICYUC. All rights reserved.

Abstract:
A large, and purportedly increasing, number of research fields in modern science require scholars from more than one discipline to understand their puzzling phenomena. In response, many scholars argue that scientific work needs to become more interdisciplinary, and is indeed becoming so. This paper contributes to our understanding of the evolution of interdisciplinary research in new fields. We explore interdisciplinary co-authorship, co-citation and publication patterns in the recently emergent research field of open source innovation during the first ten years of its existence. Utilizing a database containing 306 core publications and over 10,000 associated reference documents, we find that inquiry shifts from interdisciplinary to multidisciplinary research, and from joint puzzle solving to parallel problem solving, within a very few years after the inception of the field. "High-involvement" forms of interdisciplinary exchange decline faster than "low-involvement" forms. T!
he patterns we find in open source research, we argue, may be quite general. We propose that they are driven by changes in task uncertainty and the ability to modularize research, among other factors. Our findings have important implications for individual scholars, research organizations, and research policy. (C) 2013 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract:
A bibliometric analysis of author keywords in articles from nine Korean theological journals published from 2000 to 2008 found 10 clusters that represent the intellectual structure of Korean theology. Three main streams of Korean theology studies were identified: Reformed theology, general theology, and evangelicalism. The intellectual structures of the representative journal for each stream were examined in depth. To visualize these intellectual structures, we used co-word analysis and a Pathfinder network (PFnet) algorithm. The Pathfinder network was constructed by two approaches: first-order cosine coefficients and second-order correlation coefficients. Semantic review of the results suggests that second-order correlation coefficients more effectively present the intellectual structure of a domain by PFnet.

Abstract:
We examine the evidence for the claim of an ontological turn' in science and technology studies (STS). Despite an increase in references to ontology' in STS since 1989, we show that there has not so much been an ontological turn as multiple discussions deploying the language of ontology, consisting of many small movements that have changed the landscape within STS and beyond. These movements do not point to a shared STS-wide understanding of ontology, although it can be seen that they do open up STS to neighbouring disciplines. Three main thematic complexes are identified in this literature: constructivism and realism; instruments and classification; and the social sciences and the humanities. The introduction of ontology into the long-running constructivism-realism debate can be considered as an acknowledgement on both sides that objects are real (i.e. pre-existing the situation) and constructed at the same time. The second thematic complex focuses on the role of instrument!
s and classification in establishing not only relations of heterogeneity, but also of stability. The third thematic complex broadens the debate and actively seeks to promote an STS-driven ontological turn for research concerned with the humanities and the social sciences more generally. This study is based on both quantitative and qualitative interpretations of the literature.

Abstract:
Altmetric measurements derived from the social web are increasingly advocated and used as early indicators of article impact and usefulness. Nevertheless, there is a lack of systematic scientific evidence that altmetrics are valid proxies of either impact or utility although a few case studies have reported medium correlations between specific altmetrics and citation rates for individual journals or fields. To fill this gap, this study compares 11 altmetrics with Web of Science citations for 76 to 208,739 PubMed articles with at least one altmetric mention in each case and up to 1,891 journals per metric. It also introduces a simple sign test to overcome biases caused by different citation and usage windows. Statistically significant associations were found between higher metric scores and higher citations for articles with positive altmetric scores in all cases with sufficient evidence (Twitter, Facebook wall posts, research highlights, blogs, mainstream media and forums) e!
xcept perhaps for Google+ posts. Evidence was insufficient for LinkedIn, Pinterest, question and answer sites, and Reddit, and no conclusions should be drawn about articles with zero altmetric scores or the strength of any correlation between altmetrics and citations. Nevertheless, comparisons between citations and metric values for articles published at different times, even within the same year, can remove or reverse this association and so publishers and scientometricians should consider the effect of time when using altmetrics to rank articles. Finally, the coverage of all the altmetrics except for Twitter seems to be low and so it is not clear if they are prevalent enough to be useful in practice.

Abstract:
Background: The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Roadmap places special emphasis on "bench-to-bedside" research, or the "translation" of basic science research into practical clinical applications. The Clinical and Translational Science Awards (CTSA) Consortium is one example of the large investments being made to develop a national infrastructure to support translational science, which involves reducing regulatory burdens, launching new educational initiatives, and forming partnerships between academia and industry. However, while numerous definitions have been suggested for translational science, including the qualitative T1-T4 classification, a consensus has not yet been reached. This makes it challenging to tract the impact of these major policy changes.
Methods: In this study, we use a bibliometric approach to map PubMed articles onto a graph, called the Triangle of Biomedicine. The corners of the triangle represent research related to animals, cells and molecules, and humans; and, the position of a publication on the graph is based on its topics, as determined by its Medical Subject Headings (MeSH). We define translation as movement of a collection of articles, or the articles that cite those articles, towards the human corner.
Results: The Triangle of Biomedicine provides a quantitative way of determining if an individual scientist, research organization, funding agency, or scientific field is producing results that are relevant to clinical medicine. We validate our technique using examples that have been previously described in the literature and by comparing it to prior methods of measuring translational science.
Conclusions: The Triangle of Biomedicine is a novel way to identify translational science and track changes over time. This is important to policy makers in evaluating the impact of the large investments being made to accelerate translation. The Triangle of Biomedicine also provides a simple visual way of depicting this impact, which can be far more powerful than numbers alone.

Abstract:
Objective: Some studies suggest that open access articles are more often cited than non-open access articles. However, the relationship between open access and citations count in a discipline such as intensive care medicine has not been studied to date. The present article analyzes the effect of open access publishing of scientific articles in intensive care medicine journals in terms of citations count.
Methods: We evaluated a total of 161 articles (76% being non-open access articles) published in Intensive Care Medicine in the year 2008. Citation data were compared between the two groups up until April 30, 2011. Potentially confounding variables for citatiorj, counts were adjusted for in a linear multiple regression model.
Results: The median number (interquartile range) of citations of non-open access articles was 8 (4-12) versus 9 (6-18) in the case of open access articles (p = 0.084). In the highest citation range (>8), the citation count was beta (10-16) and 18 (eta-21) (p = 0.008), respectively. The mean follow-up was 37.5 3 months in both groups. In the 30-35 months after publication, the average number (mean standard deviation) of citations per article per month of non-open access articles was 0.28 0.6 versus 0.38 0.7 in the case of open access articles (p = 0.043). Independent factors for citation advantage were the Hirsch index of the first signing author (beta=0.207; p = 0.015) and open access status (beta=3.618; p = 0.006).
Conclusions: Open access publishing and the Hirsch index of the first signing author increase the impact of scientific articles. The open access advantage is greater for the more highly cited articles, and appears in the 30-35 months after publication. (C) 2012 Elsevier Espana, S.L. and SEMICYUC. All rights reserved.

Abstract:
Bioenergy has been one of the hottest topics in energy science and engineering. This paper aims to assess the evolution of bioenergy as a research field by using scientometrics and scientific visualization techniques. CiteSpacell was used to map the intellectual structure of bioenergy field based on 2237 articles in ISI Web of Science database on this topic between 1973 and 2012, and the co-citation maps analyzed and visualized here show the major areas of research, prominent articles, major knowledge producers and journals in the bioenergy field. The article written by Searchinger et al. ("Use of US croplands for biofuels increases greenhouse gases through emissions from land-use change," 2008) appears to be the most influential source as it was cited the most, the article by Fargione et al. ("Land clearing and the biofuel carbon debt," 2008) and the article by Farrell et al. ("Ethanol can contribute to energy and environmental goals," 2006) are respectively the second and !
third most highly cited document. Biomass and Bioenergy (BIOMASS BIOENERG.) is the most frequently cited journal by the authors writing on the research field of bioenergy. IPCC-Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change is most frequently co-cited author, followed by FAO-Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and Lewandowski. The hottest keywords in this field appear to be bioenergy, biomass, energy, biofuels, ethanol, switchgrass and management.

Abstract:
Citation indexes have attracted substantial interest from both scholars and policy-makers in recent years. This paper illustrates the potential and limitations of the use of bibliometric indicators to assess the scientific productivity of research units (e.g., a single researcher or department). The main citation indexes are computed for a representative sample of 1327 Italian academic economists (secs p/01, p/02, p/03). Our analysis highlights the limited sensitivity of bibliometric rankings with respect to the citation indexes (h, g, g*, f, t, F-max) and, vice versa, a greater sensitivity with respect to the database (Scopus, WoS, EconLit, Google Scholar). Finally, our estimates reveal that faculty position, Scientific Disciplinary Sector (SSD), geographic location, and, in some regressions, the size of the university, explain approximately 20% of the valiance in scholars' bibliometric performance.

Abstract:
Background: Several studies have examined the scientific production of National Counsel of Technological and Scientific Development (CNPq) researchers in various areas of knowledge. However, specific data about the main Brazilian researchers in Neurosciences are scarce. Objective: Evaluate the scientific production of researchers in the field of Neurosciences who receives productivity grant from the CNPq. Methods: The Lattes Curriculum of 58 researchers with active grants in the years from 2006 to 2008 were included in the analysis. The variables of interest were: gender, affiliation, human resources training, and scientific production. Grants categories/levels were classified according to CNPq database. Results: There was predominance of grants level 1 (55.2%). Researchers published 6,526 articles (median of 90). Of these, 61% were indexed in the ISI database. There was no significant difference between the categories regarding the number of articles (P = 0.12). The median !
h-index was 10.5 and the median m-index was 0.77. There was no significant difference in m-index between the categories (P = 0.28). Discussion: Strategies to qualitatively improve the scientific output possibly can be enhanced by the knowledge of the profile of researchers in the field of Neurosciences.

Abstract:
Purpose - The aims of this paper are to: investigate the citation-patterns of monograph books in taxonomic botany (looking mainly at publications and publishers, and the age of current literature); and make recommendations for collections management and reference services in libraries that hold botany materials.
Design/methodology/approach - In total, 454 citations were collected at random from 47 botanical monographs published in 2009; a Bradford distribution of cited journals was produced; age-distributions of citations were devised; and other bibliographical characteristics were tabulated.
Findings - A small Bradfordian core of highly-cited journals and important publishers of monograph books were identified; monographs are cited more often than journal articles; older materials are more important than in other sciences; monographs are used by botanists for current awareness purposes; coverage of botanical journals by citation indexes is poor.
Research limitations/implications - The small size of the sample means that results were indicative. Further studies could: take larger samples; look at citations in journal articles, theses, conference proceeding; look at citations made over several years.
Practical implications - Librarians should: note the core botanical journals identified here; continue to acquire botanical monographs and to retain older materials; display new botanical monographs prominently and include them in current awareness services.
Originality/value - The bibliometrics of taxonomic botany have previously been little studied; likewise citations from monographs. This paper fills some of the gaps. Some of the bibliometric methods of J. M. Cullars were applied to botanical literature.

Abstract:
Using traditional bibliometric indices such as the well-known journal impact factor (IFAC), as well as other more recently developed measures like the (journal) h-index and modifications, we assessed the impact of most prolific scientific journals in the field of animal and dairy science. To achieve this end, we performed a detailed investigation on the evaluation of journals quality, using a total of 50 journals selected from the category of "Agriculture, Dairy & Animal Science" included in the Thomson Reuters' (formerly Institute of Scientific Information, ISI) Web of Science. Our analysis showed that among the top journals in the field are the Journal of Dairy Research, the Journal of Dairy Science, and the Journal of Animal Science. In particular, the Journal of Animal Science, the most productive and frequently cited journal, has shown rapid development, especially in recent years. The majority of the top-tier, highly cited articles are those associated with the descrip!
tion of statistical methodology and the standard chemical analytical methodologies.

Abstract:
A global view of intelligence research can reveal the intellectual structure of this domain. This research can also find the set of core researchers, show the literature citation network and institutional collaboration, and dig the research hotspot. All of the useful information can help both experts and newcomers in this domain gain a faster and deeper understanding of contemporary status to intelligence subject. This paper meets this need by using a global view framework through analysis intelligence domain literature data. The data were crawled from one of the biggest literature data website in China through a depth-first data crawler that we developed. The framework of this paper construct from four type of perspectives: (1) the basic analysis of the quantity of intelligence literature which can discern the core researchers; (2) confirm the property that the literature citation network has small-world property, the indegree distribution of the citation network accord wit!
 h power-law distribution, simultaneously the outdegree distribution also possess power-law distribution after we smooth the "crew cut" phenomena; (3) analysis to the research institutional collaboration pattern through Google map technique, so we can ascertain the main research city and the collaboration pattern among cities;

Abstract:
An Impact Factor is one measure of the relative importance of a journal, individual article or scientist to science and social science literature and research. Each index or database used to create an impact factor uses a different methodology and produces slightly different results, revealing the importance of using several sources to judge the true impact of a journal's or scientist's work. In the web environment, impact factor is measured through the number of hyperlinks counts and number of WebPages. The concept of self-citation is replaced by self-links, i.e., the links within the websites and citation is replaced by in-links, i.e., the links coming outside the websites. As we know, WIF is the logical sum of external and self-link WebPages divided by number of web pages found on that particular websites. There are number of ways to find the impact of journal, paper, and Web sites etc. The proposed system is going to find impact factor of students E-Dissertation by using!
h-index and the related links of E-Dissertation represented diagrammatically by using UCINET software. This system is used to measure the quality of E-Dissertation. Most of the E-Dissertations are downloaded from the Web or required pages can read from the Web site itself. This was done by means of a citation analysis and a reader survey. For the citation analysis, impact factor, citing half-life, number of references per article, and the rate of self-references of a periodical were used as indicators. Webometric data have been collected through Yahoo! And Google search engines using special query syntax.
