ABSTRACT: This paper describes a brief history of the research and
development of information retrieval systems starting with the creation
of electromechanical searching devices, through to the early adoption of
computers to search for items that are relevant to a user's query. The
advances achieved by information retrieval researchers from the 1950s
through to the present day are detailed next, focusing on the process of
locating relevant information. The paper closes with speculation on where
the future of information retrieval lies.

ABSTRACT: We use the 2010 Google Scholar citations of academic
economists working in France in 2008 to draw a panorama of research in
economics in France. This allows us to test whether using a broader
support than Econlit publication records changes the assessment of
research productivity. We compare different citation indexes, as the
number of citations per author, the H-index or the G-index, which we
calculate at the individual and at the department levels, with some
Econlit publication scores. The latter take more or less into account the
quality of journals and the analysis is performed for several time
periods.

The hierarchy of universities obtained through Google Scholar citation
indexes is relatively close to that observed when using Econlit
publication scores. However we also observe some dramatic changes for a
couple of universities, positive mainly when economics is not the
research core of these institutions.

ABSTRACT: Background: Thesis is an important part of specialisation
and doctorate education and requites intense work. The aim of this study
was to investigate the publication rates of Turkish Public Health
Doctorate Theses (PHDT) and Public Health Specialization (PHST) theses in
international and Turkish national peer-review journals and to analyze
the distribution of research areas.

Methods: List of all theses upto 30 September 2009 were retrieved from
theses database of the Council of Higher Education of the Republic of
Turkey. The publication rates of these theses were found by searching
PubMed, Science Citation Index-Expanded, Turkish Academic Network and
Information Center (ULAKBIM) Turkish Medical Database, and Turkish
Medline databases for the names of thesis author and mentor. The theses
which were published in journals indexed either in PubMed or SCI-E were
considered as international publications.

Results: Our search yielded a total of 538 theses (243 PHDT, 295 PHST).
It was found that the overall publication rate in Turkish national
journals was 18%. The overall publication rate in international journals
was 11.9%. Overall the most common research area was occupational health.

Conclusion: Publication rates of Turkish PHDT and PHST are low. A better
understanding of factors affecting this publication rate is important for
public health issues where national data is vital for better intervention
programs and develop better public health policies.

ABSTRACT: In this paper a scientometric study on the IEEE
Transactions on Software Engineering 1980-2010 is presented. Using the
full records from the Thomson Reuters (ISI) Web of Science (WoS), the
journal's bibliometric measures are examined in terms of growth of
literature, authorship characteristics, country of origin, distribution
of articles' citations and references, and finally graph network of the
research collaborations. A keyword occurrence analysis was carried out on
the articles' title and the results used to create TagClouds showing
perceptually their research importance. Furthermore, these TagClouds were
created for the full 3 decades, shorter 5-year periods and most recent
years, providing insights into potential research trends and help to
relate them to major historic contributions in software engineering.
