Abstract:
Bibliometric studies in science have recently acquired great relevance. The aim of this study is to undertake a bibliometric analysis of the Revista Educacion XX1 in the last ten years. This journal has been recently incorporated in the Web of Science, and we aim to revise the current status of it. For this reason, we have undertaken the analysis of a total of 89 articles, consulted in the electronic version of the journal, the IN-RECS database and Redalyc scientific information system, following a series of bibliometric indicators, some of the most relevant of them are: authorship index, authors s nationality, university of origin, language of publication, number of references per year on each article and number of downloads per paper, among others. Among the most prominent results of this research we can conclude that the predominant language used in this publication is Spanish, the authors are mostly of Spanish nationality the articles published in 2007 were the ones that!
most citations received, it exists a large percentage of references of articles published before 2000 and there does not exist any relation between the most cited papers and those which are most downloaded. Finally, the paper concludes pointing out some general guidelines aimed to promote the wider dissemination of this journal, its recognition as an international journal, the updating of the year of publication of the references, the affiliation of the authors, and also in relation to subject areas of education on which to publish.

Abstract:
Publication bias is the preferential publication of research with positive results, and is a threat to the validity of medical literature. Preliminary evidence suggests that research in blood and marrow transplantation (BMT) lacks publication bias. We evaluated publication bias at an international conference, the 2006 Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research (CIBMTR)/American Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (ASBMT) "tandem" meeting. All abstracts were categorized by type of research, funding status, number of centers, sample size, and direction of the results. Publication status was then determined for the abstracts by searching PubMed. Of 501 abstracts, 217 (43%) were later published as complete manuscripts. Abstracts with positive results were more likely to be published than those with negative or unstated results (P = .001). Furthermore, positive studies were published in journals with a mean *impact factor* of 6.92, whereas journals in !
which negative/unstated studies were published had an *impact factor* of only 4.30 (P = .02). We conclude that publication bias exists in the BMT literature. Full publication of research, regardless of direction of results, should be encouraged and the BMT community should be aware of the existence of publication bias. (Blood. 2011;118(25):6698-6701)

Abstract:
The "First European Conference on Optical Fibre Communication" was held in 1975 in London, organized by the Institution of Electrical Engineers (IEE) and European Physical Society (EPS). A proceeding with 209 pages was printed by the IEE. In 1988, ECOC was held again in UK (Brighton) and the IEE pioneered dissemination by publishing for the first time the proceeding of a major conference on an electronic library (IEEE). Since 2008 printed ECOC proceedings are not distributed anymore at all. The 37th ECOC, held in Geneva, marks another publication milestone. For the first time selected proceeding papers are published in an ECOC/Optics Express Special Issue, making use of dissemination through a high *impact factor* and open access journal. Abstract:
The nanotechnology development is accompanied by an intensive growth of information flow which is specially noticeable as applied to journal information flow. Now over the world there are the 69 nano-titled journals with the *impact factor* and/or a settled periodicity as well as the 70 those which lack stability periodicity and are in an organization stage. Only 49 nano-titled have the *impact factor* with the comparatively high mean value of about 3.44. The domestic nano-titled journals published in Russia, India, China, and other countries are also considered. The attention is taken that in the 2006-2010 period the 95 new nano-titled journals were organized and in 2011 this process is continuing and seems to be the most impressive. Many nano-related journals (including classical physical, chemical and materials science ones) are also described and discussed.

Abstract:
Scholarly periodicals in Iran are considered main information resources in the development of knowledge in scholarly areas. About 566 periodicals have publication licenses from the Commission of Scholarly Periodicals Evaluation of Ministry of Science, Research & Technology (MSRT), with sixty-eight published in English. This paper studies the publication delay of twenty-six Iranian scholarly periodicals which are published in Persian in Iran, not those Iranian journals which are published in English in Iran or out of the country. The peer review and scholarly publication processes in Iranian journals are quite lengthy and need improvement. There was no significant relationship between publication delay in Persian scholarly periodicals and their *impact factor* as presented by the Islamic World Science Citation Center (titled ISC). Finally, the authors offer some solutions for improving the publication system of Iranian scholarly journals and decreasing the publication interva!
l of these journals. Serials Review 2011; 37:262-266. (C) 2011 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved

Abstract:
Significance tests were originally developed to enable more objective evaluations of research results. Yet the strong orientation towards statistical significance encourages biased results, a phenomenon termed "publication bias". Publication bias occurs whenever the likelihood or time-lag of publication, or the prominence, language, *impact factor* of journal space or the citation rate of studies depend on the direction and significance of research findings.
Although there is much evidence concerning the existence of publication bias in all scientific disciplines and although its detrimental consequences for the progress of the sciences have been known for a long time, all attempts to eliminate the bias have failed. The present article reviews the history and logic of significance testing, the state of research on publication bias, and existing practical recommendations. After demonstrating that more systematical research on the risk factors of publication bias is needed, the paper suggests two new directions for publication bias research. First, a more comprehensive theoretical model based on theories of rational choice and economics as well as on the sociology of science is sketched out. Publication bias is recognized as the outcome of a social dilemma that cannot be overcome by moral pleas alone. Second, detection methods for publication bias going beyond meta-analysis, ones that are more suitable for testing causal hypothese!
s, are discussed. In particular, the "caliper test" seems well-suited for conducting theoretically motivated comparisons across heterogeneous research fields like sociology. Its potential is demonstrated by testing hypotheses on (a) the relevance of explicitly vs. implicitly stated research propositions and on (b) the relevance of the number of authors on incidence rates of publication bias in 50 papers published in leading German sociology journals.

Abstract:
Background and Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate number and type of Croatian publications in the field of pain research, and to compare it with peers.
Material and Methods: The raw data were collected during February 2011 from the three Current Contents (CC) database subsets: Life Sciences, Clinical Medicine, and Social & Behavioral Sciences. We combined two data sets: the one with articles published by authors affiliated with Croatian institutions and the one with pain-related keywords. We studied number of publications, their impact factors and type of collaborations. Publications of Croatian authors in the field of pain research were compared with identical dataset comprising articles published by researchers from Graz, Austria, because of its comparable scientific production.
Results: From 1998 to 2011, scientists from Croatian institutions published 194 pain-related articles indexed in CC, compared to 187 articles published by their peels from Graz. The 32% percent of articles were published in the local low-impact journals. The number of Croatian research publications in the field of pain is steadily increasing. However, an average *impact factor* of journals in our cohort was significantly lower compared to peels from Graz.
Conclusion: Although the number of manuscripts in the field of pain research in Croatia is increasing, the quality of published articles is still low. We propose that Croatian Association for the Treatment of Pain should take actions for enhancing pain research in Croatia, as well as increasing the visibility and impact of Croatian pain-related research that can be transposed to other research fields and transitional countries.
