ABSTRACT: Background and Purpose: The aim of this study was to
evaluate number and type of Croatian publications in the field of pain research, and to compare it with peers.

Material and Methods: The raw data were collected during February 2011 from the three Current Contents (CC) database subsets: Life Sciences, Clinical Medicine, and Social & Behavioral Sciences. We combined two data
sets: the one with articles published by authors affiliated with Croatian institutions and the one with pain-related keywords. We studied number of publications, their impact factors and type of collaborations.
Publications of Croatian authors in the field of pain research were compared with identical dataset comprising articles published by researchers from Graz, Austria, because of its comparable scientific production.

Results: From 1998 to 2011, scientists from Croatian institutions published 194 pain-related articles indexed in CC, compared to 187 articles published by their peels from Graz. The 32% percent of articles were published in the local low-impact journals. The number of Croatian research publications in the field of pain is steadily increasing.
However, an average impact factor of journals in our cohort was significantly lower compared to peels from Graz.

Conclusion: Although the number of manuscripts in the field of pain research in Croatia is increasing, the quality of published articles is still low. We propose that Croatian Association for the Treatment of Pain should take actions for enhancing pain research in Croatia, as well as increasing the visibility and impact of Croatian pain-related research that can be transposed to other research fields and transitional countries.

ABSTRACT: What is philosophy of education? This question has been
answered in as many ways as there are those who self-identify as philosophers of education. However, the questions our field asks and the research conducted to answer them often produce papers, essays, and manuscripts that we can read, evaluate, and ponder. This paper turns to those tangible products of our scholarly activities. The titles, abstracts, and keywords from every article published from 2000 to 2010 in four journals of educational philosophy were analyzed to find out what kind of research is being published in the field of philosophy of education. Over 143 different concepts were identified and analyzed from
1,572 articles. The data suggests that philosophy and education, while primarily concerned with theory, teaching, and learning, tackles a diversity of subjects in a slightly narrowing band of thematic topics.

ABSTRACT: In the last few years, a huge increment in the quality of
scientific articles published in Brazilian Medical Journals has been observed. Several reasons were related to this feature including the SciELO free access initiative, the English language adopted by most journals, and, more importantly, the increase in the number and quality of Brazilian researchers. This article highlights, in the cardiovascular and respiratory areas, the best articles that have been published in these journals in the last few months. The reader will have a general overview of these areas and can select the original articles for deeper information.

ABSTRACT: Objective: We examined relations between young adult
texting and accessing the web while driving with driving outcomes (viz.
crashes and traffic citations). Our premise is that engaging in texting and accessing the web while driving is not only distracting but that these activities represent a pattern of behavior that leads to an increase in unwanted outcomes, such as crashes and citations.

Methods: College students (N = 274) on 3 campuses (one in California and
2 in Utah) completed an electronic questionnaire regarding their driving experience and cell phone use.

Results: Our data indicate that 3 out of 4 (74.3%) young adults engage in texting while driving, over half on a weekly basis (51.8%), and some engage in accessing the web while driving (16.8%). Data analysis revealed a relationship between these cell phone behaviors and traffic citations and crashes.

Conclusion: The findings support Jessor and Jessor's (1977) "problem behavior syndrome" by showing that traffic citations are related to texting and accessing the web while driving and that crashes are related to accessing the web while driving. Limitations and recommendations are discussed.

ABSTRACT: This paper makes a bibliometric research of the
publications in the SOBER congress in the years of 2006, 2007, 2008 e 2009, aiming to map and analyze critically the use of economical and financial viability techniques. In this way, this study has the intention to offer an overview of the studies made and make itself into a reference base to future studies. The results show a slight trend of increase in the number of articles using these tools in the agribusiness sector and a large number of authors with only one work, which could be pointing to this issue is being used by area, but not developed by it. The critical analysis revealed some problems such as the fact that most of the articles do not consider investment in the working capital and most of these do not show the cash flow used in the analysis, which complicates their understanding.

ABSTRACT: Introduction: An increasing number of trials of multi-
herb formula interventions are being published in relatively high-ranked medical journals indexed in the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE).
The aim of the study was to evaluate the quality of reporting of two- group parallel randomized controlled clinical trials (indexed in SCIE) of multi-herb formulae.

Methods: Computerized literature searches were performed in SCIE from
1996 to November 2010. Two reviewers independently assessed the included trials using the modified Consolidated Standard of Reporting Trials
(CONSORT) 2010 checklist and additional items reflecting the basic characteristics of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). The number and proportion of reports describing each of the 38 modified CONSORT items and 6 additional TCM items were calculated. We also performed stratified analyses according to whether reports had or had not adopted the CONSORT statement, or according to Chinese reports (conducted in Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan) or non-Chinese reports.

Conclusions: The present study shows that the quality of reporting of these trials is suboptimal. We recommend all journals endorse the CONSORT statement, which would help researchers to improve the reporting of future randomized controlled trials. In addition, the reporting of the TCM items was considered inadequate in the included studies. All TCM practitioners should pay attention to the unique characteristics of TCM and improve the reporting of the recommended TCM items. (C) 2011 Elsevier GmbH. All rights reserved.
