Abstract: We have compared the top 25 papers as assessed by download 
statistics for papers published during 2007 in the International Journal 
of Cardiology with the top 25 papers as assessed by citations. There was 
very little overlap with only three papers being in both lists. This 
indicates very different criteria for seeking to read as opposed to cite 
recent scientific publications and calls into question the reliability of 
commonly sued measures quality and/or impact for papers at the individual
