Abstract: The international citations received by the Spanish journals of 
Geography are studied, using the SCOPUS database. In general, the number 
of international citations is very low in comparison with the geographical 
journals included in SCI and SSCI, with Pirineos, Cuaternario y 
Geomorfologia, Estudios Geograficos and Cuadernos de Investigacion 
Geografica as the most cited journals. Nevertheless, other journals as 
Scripta Nova, Boletin de la Asociacion de Geografos Espanoles and 
Investigaciones Geograficas show an increasinginternational impact. This 
paper confirms the necessity of considering the SCI journals and not only 
the SSCI ones to evaluate the international impact of the Spanish 
geographical journals . In most of the Spanish journals, the papers 
dealing on Physical Geography are the most cited in international 
journals.
