Downloads as predictors of future citations

Several articles have been published that look at article "hits" as a
predictor of future citations. Some researchers use fulltext downloads
(HTML) as their predictor, some combine HTML and PDF. Does anyone know
of a paper that discriminates between the type of view and future
citations? In other words, which type of view is the best predictor of
future citations? My sense is that it is PDF, but I'm open to be convinced.
Thanks,
Phil
