Excerpt from paper :
Other experts interested in content area books tend to laud titles
designed to motivate reading and participation in their fields of study.
For instance, Garfield (1984), an information scientist and founder of the
journal _The Scientist_, recommended science books likely to excite
children, books that embody a sense of adventure. He stated that there
will not then be a long transition from _Call of the Wild_ or _The Time
Machine_ to _Microbe Hunters_ (p.431). It is interesting that Garfield,
trained both as a scientist and librarian, viewed his goal as preparing for
and encouraging pleasure reading as opposed to textbook reading.
